An absolute jewel of a piece!
Described by composer Darla Bower as “a mellow piano piece for relaxation and reflection,” “November Skies" was written to reflect her love of the fall season and the month of November in particular. Slow paced and gently rocking, with tinkling cascades of sound like leaves drifting from the trees, the music is somber without quite being sad and took me back to gray fall afternoons spent walking through the woods, a smoky chill in the air, reminiscing about years past and mentally preparing for the long winter to come. The cover art, a sunset photo taken by the artist’s husband in the Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado, is the perfect complement to the single. This is an absolute jewel of a composition. Don’t miss it!

From MainlyPiano
“November Skies” is the first single from the forthcoming second album from pianist/composer Darla Bower. The piece is especially meaningful to Darla because of her love for the fall season and her favorite month is November. She describes this piano solo: “The piece reminds me of all the beautiful skies in Texas and Colorado during November; sunsets, falling leaves and crisp autumn days.” Slow and relaxed with an easy rhythmic motion, I think most listeners will be reminded of places that give them inner peace and will be transported there via a sweet and tranquil memory while listening to this music. What a a lovely (and much-needed!) gift to the world! The cover photo is of a sunset over Moraine Meadow in the Rocky Mountain National Park and was taken by Darla’s husband. I can’t wait to hear what’s next!

Get lost in the music
Normally where I come from, November Skies are usually slate grey and unyielding.
There is an essence of that descriptive nature within the arrangement of this piece too, however like Novembers here in my new home of Cyprus we have one thing that we’re most grateful for, and that’s hope of better things to come.
That is also what I find in this delightfully descriptive musical narrative, we have the slowness and struggle of a pre winter month, but one combined with the hope of better days to come and the gratitude of being able to enjoy the moment.
Darla Bower has to be one of the most descriptive pianists I have heard and one can get totally lost in her music.
