"Blessings" is a powerful and contemplative ballad that reminds us that life's troubles just might be God's protective hand growing us, in a sense His "mercies in disguise."

Album Notes
Indie recording artist Darla Day is not only a songwriter and worship leader, she's also the mother of a special needs child with cerebral palsy. Most famous for penning the heartwarming wedding song "Love of My Life" (watch the video on YouTube), Darla now brings us the powerful and contemplative cover song "Blessings."

The song, beautifully written by Christian singer/songwriter Laura Story, reminds us that life's troubles just might be God's protective hand transforming us into the likeness of His Son. In seemingly impossible circumstances, God can and does transform us. Romans 5:2-4 (NIV) says it best: "...we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope."

Perseverance is certainly no stranger to Laura Story and Darla Day. Of her family's struggle, Story says, "A lot of things have gotten better with [my husband's] health, and a lot of things have not. We pray for God to bless us, but what does it look like when I spend four or so years praying for healing for my husband that never comes? I feel like we've kind of gotten to a place of having to make a choice. Are we going to judge God based on our circumstances that we don't understand, or are we going to choose to judge our circumstances based on what we know to be true about God?"

For Day and her husband Chad, their hope and years of praying is to see their now 5-year-old son Jenson to walk.

So, how do we worship God in the midst of our troubles? The truth is simple but often really difficult to live out. We stand in faith. We believe. And we trust that God knows what's best for us (even when we can't see it).

ON THE COVER: The "Rainbow" artwork featured on this album cover was painted by Jenson Elijah Day at age 4. The original framed painting still hangs in Jenson's room as a daily reminder of God's promises and unfailing love.

words and music by Laura Story

We pray for blessings, we pray for peace
Comfort for family, protection while we sleep
We pray for healing, for prosperity
We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering
And all the while, You hear each spoken need
Yet Love is way too much to give us lesser things

'Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
And what if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You're near
And what if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise

We pray for wisdom, Your voice to hear
We cry in anger when we cannot feel You near
We doubt Your goodness, we doubt Your love
As if every promise from Your Word is not enough
And all the while, You hear each desperate plea
And long that we'd have faith to believe

When friends betray us
When darkness seems to win, we know
That pain reminds this heart
That this is not, this is not our home

What if my greatest disappointments
Or the aching of this life
Is a revealing of a greater thirst this world can't satisfy
And what if trials of this life
The rain, the storms, the hardest nights
Are your mercies in disguise
