Album Notes
DARREN HOLDEN is one of today’s most talented and popular young performers. Originally from County Kilkenny, Ireland, Darren currently stars as The Piano Man in the U.S. national touring production of the Tony Award®-winning hit Billy Joel/Twyla Tharp Broadway musical "Movin’ Out." His new album, ROADWORKS, contains his own original songs and is the result of two years of writing and recording while touring the U.S. and Canada with "Movin’ Out." Darren is delighted to be collaborating on this album with Tommy Byrnes, Billy Joel’s long-time musical director/guitarist, who has produced three tracks, “Bad Tattoo,” “Something Stronger” and “I Win, I Lose” and composed the latter two. Also included on this album is Darren’s song “Through Hell and High Water,” dedicated to the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Darren is not only a prolific songwriter but a master interpreter of lyrics as well. His soaring vocals and heartfelt lyrics combined with his rock and roll versatility continue to captivate audiences around the world. He has just captured the hearts of Japanese audiences while performing "Movin' Out" in Tokyo for six weeks this summer.

At the age of 16, Darren put together his first band, Wanted, which developed an excellent reputation for its country-rock sensibilities, and toured extensively in the UK, Europe, and the US. After Wanted disbanded, Darren concentrated on songwriting, winning several prizes in the “Irish Song for Europe” competitions, as well as composing awards in various competitions in Finland, Sweden, Greece, Los Angeles, Kiev and Kazakhstan. One of his tracks, “After Tonight”, was released domestically and peaked in the top ten of the Irish national charts.

In 1995, Darren was asked to support Boyzone on their first major tour of Ireland and the UK. During this period, Darren worked with producer Ray Hedges (Boyzone, B*Witched), and had top ten hits in Ireland with “After Tonight” and a cover of Leo Sayer’s “More Than I Can Say.” In the summer of 1998, he toured as a guest artist to various festivals with artists such as Paul Young, Peter Andre, and Belinda Carlisle. He collaborated with country artist Rodney Crowell on a track, “Wendy’s World,” as part of the Celtic Harmony Festival. He also collaborated with R’n’B artist Montell Jordan on “It Will Always Be You.”

Darren’s debut solo album, “Suddenly,” was released in Ireland at the end of 1998. The album contained three top 20 hits, and the national Irish music radio station, 2FM, awarded it “Album of the Week” status. A few months later, Darren was cast as a lead singer in "Riverdance," which he performed on Broadway and on tour for more than three years. While in New York, Darren recorded a CD of original traditional/contemporary country songs. The recording sessions took place in New York and Nashville. His album "Live & Learn" was released in 2002 in the US and produced three top 40 airplay hits. Darren was nominated for the 2004 New Music Weekly Award in the category of “Best Country Male Artist.”

Darren appeared in concert at the famed Whisky A Go-Go in Los Angeles, performing his original songs and backed by members of the “Movin’ Out” band. His a cappella renditions of both the US and Canadian national anthems make him a favorite guest of sports teams across North America.

Brilliant as always
I've been a fan a friend of Darrens for years. I've watched his career grow for years and it's great to see him finally get the recognition he justly deserves. Now to the album well there's not a lot to say other than each track is a gem in it's own right. I can't even pick a favourite. Darren is consistent in everything he does and I'm delighted to say he hasn't left us down this time either. The production, arrangements and lyrics are second to none as always. Continued success Daz. You truly deserve it.

Fantastic. Amazing.
Darren Roadworks is a great CD but I expect nothing less from you. You continue to amaze everybody that hears you and you are now receiving the recognition you have deserved since we first became friends and you were starting your career. You are you only person that could write the sound track for my project. I am so looking forward to working on that. Every song on this CD is great.

Another Awesome CD
Again, another awesome CD from one of the most talented singer/performers I have seen. I bought both Live and Learn and Roadworks. Live and Learn shows off his country side, and Roadworks is a mix of pop/rock. My favorite songs on this CD are Through Hell and High Water and Perfect Love. Darren can sing anything from pop/rock, Irish ballads, to country and blow it out of the park! I originally saw him on The High Kings tour, bought his CD's and simply can't get enough of him! His vocal range is amazing and you can feel his heart and soul in each song. I can't wait for his next CD to come out. He just keeps getting better. He is a rare gem who can sing and perform like no one else I have seen. Irish eyes are smiling :)

How can I pick a favorite track? The're all brilliant!
Darren blew me away in Movin' Out, such power in his voice. I loved Live and Learn, but this one is something else. It's much more of the style I would associate with Darren, although he did the country feel brilliantly on L&L. I love how he rocks on Bad Tattoo and 5 Star Day, Through Hell and High Water is a lovely song with some very meaningful lyrics, that I have loved that for months since I bought it on download. Over and Over Again was a track that I noticed on first hearing so I guess if I have to start picking favorites that would be in there, and I love Perfect Love. It's just a superb album and I can honestly say that for me there isn't one weak track on it, there are several different styles and tempos, but they all work and are great. The collaboration with Bryan Steele on 6 of the tracks sounds like a match made in heaven and one I hope that will flourish and deliver us more great music in the future. It's hard to believe that much of this album was written and recorded in hotel rooms while Darren was doing his regular job of performing 24 songs a show in the Movin' Out touring production. However he managed to do this in between, it certainly works, this man has a great future ahead of him.

Darren Holden blew me away in "Movin' Out" when I saw it here in Boston. His two CDs don't disappoint, either. This one shows off Darren's amazing vocal range, from a couple of edgy rockers to a surprise dip into '60s flower-pop on "It's All About Ally". The best track here is "Through Hell and High Water", a truly moving tribute to
the people of hurricane-hit New Orleans. Anyone who enjoys pop-rock with just the right amount of retro and a great singer will like "Roadworks"- another winner from Ireland's
best new export. Way to go Darren!

I absolutely LOVE this cd! Darren's voice is phenomenal!
After being blown away with Darren's vocals in "Movin' Out" here in Sacramento CA, I bought this CD after the show and fell in love with his music on the ride home that night. I can't think of a single song on the cd that I don't like; the love ballads are beautiful and the upbeat "pop" songs make me want to dance! Darren's music can instantly put you in a good mood...even at the end of a long, weary work day. I can't wait to buy his other CDs!

Roadworks is a fantastic CD
I was excited when I heard Roadworks was coming out. It was worth the wait to hear Roadworks. I have enjoyed this album as much as his other albums. I have been fortunate to see Darren perform Movin' Out twice in Boston (once in March 2004 and once in May 2006). When I listen to him sing on the CD, it reminds me of how wonderful he was when I went to see him in Movin' Out. I can't pick a favorite song on Roadworks, there's too many songs to choose from. I like Perfect Love and Over and Over Again. All About Ally and 5 Star Day are also very catchy songs. I find myself listening to the CD and finding any of the songs on the CD stuck in my head. Darren has done himself very proud with this new CD.
