Album Notes
This music is definitely for the adventurous: An ancient war oracle reemerges at a crucial time in world history to send messages to our war ravaged planet. What good is technology if the end result is the extinction of biology? Gas guzzling machines have infected their users to focus on consumption at all costs. The war oracle produces words that stimulate the anti-war impulse latent in anyone who's ever created a child, who's ever fallen in love, or who's ever felt the power of music to release the imagination. With weapons of mass disraction appearing everywhere to keep our focus off of the basic issues, more solutions to problems exist than people who want to implement them. Think of the 93 billion spent on the war in Iraq, that would provide health care, schooling, shelter, and permanent vacations for the numbers of Americans denied these rights and privileges. This music has been performed at Sin-E, Pianos, the Cutting Room, the C-Note, Nightingale's,and Crash Mansion and continues to disturb and provoke audiences. We know New York Electric Piano like to play those jazz instrumentals that make everyone happy- just listen to Sea Monster or Balladeer- but when the War Oracle descends on the band there's nothing they can do but go with it: the results are mesmerizing- In The Beginning continues to be an audience favorite.
Recorded and mixed by Aaron Comess at His House Studios. Vocals recorded by Tommy D at Terraplane Studios. A huge thanks to Rick at Terraplane for making the vibe happen. Mastered by the irrepressible Terence Bernardo. This album was the #2 add on the CMJ Canadian charts for September of 2004. Blame Canada.
In the Beginning
God created money
But after a while the money grew lonely
So God took a piece of the money and created a banker
But after a while they grew cold
so God built them a tax shelter
What if we didn't have any money
What if there were no money at all
What if the banks began to srumble and fall
Then there would be no poverty

An explosive mix of wild music and social relevance
This CD took me by surprise, the tunes relate to how dark the world situation is but the music energized my imagination and left me feeling hopeful about the world. A heavy dose of jazz-rock intensity going on here!
