Album Notes
David Cumes was born and raised in South Africa and has been exploring ancient African wisdom for contemporary ideas on healing for some time. He has been initiated as an African shaman (sangoma or inyanga) and can testify personally to the value of their divining techniques, the powerful rituals and plant medicines, the altered states of consciousness induced by drumming and the diagnostic power of the "bones."

Since his initiation as a sangoma in 2002 Dave has been receiving songs in his dreams. Some are African, some Celtic, some Chassidic, some Spanish and some Native American. Though Dave is not a musician, the ancestors have told him the songs are for healing and must be sung by him. He records the songs in South Africa with Eugene Havenga, who engineers and adds instrumentation and harmonies. Dave practices indigenous healing in Santa Barbara.
