Album Notes
Dave Fields

Award winning producer/performer NYC musician Dave Fields has been part of the NYC music scene for decades having worked with Roxy Perry, Frankie Paris and NYC blues great Sweet Georgia Brown. Not just a guitarist, Dave has also been known to tear it up on B3 and piano. A regular at BITTER END and DINOSAUR BAR, Dave recently played MAC ARNOLDS CORN BREAD AND COLLARD GREEN Blues Festival in May, THE CRESSKILL BLUES FESTIVAL in July and THE FIRE ISLAND MUSIC FESTIVAL in AUGUST.

Dave is president of Fields Music and has written music for THE 2004 OLYMPICS, THE TODAY SHOW, NBC SPORTS and produced the winner of BEST SELF PRODUCED BLUES CD of 2006 for producing ROXY PERRY’S “BACK IN BLUESVILLE”. Dave has also performed with U2, THE FAMILY STAND, HUBERT SUMLIN, BOBBY RUSH, WILLIE “BIG EYES” SMITH, EDDIE SHAW, BLIND MISSISSIPPI MORRIS, THE DRIFTERS and RUBY DEE & OSSIE DAVIS. He has also shared the stage with such notables as ARETHA FRANKIN and RICHIE HAVENS.

Dave has music in his blood his father being the noted composer arranger producer Sammy Fields A.K.A. “Forever” Fields. Dave carried on the music production torch from his Dad doing his first recording session at the age of thirteen for one of his father’s TV commercials.

Dave’s first CD entitled FIELD OF VISION is a powerhouse fusion of rock and jazz featuring Van Romaine (Steve Morse band) with Mike Visceglia (Suzanne Vega) and two cuts and Keith Carlock (Sting) with Tim LeFebre (Bill Evans) on two cuts and Wes Little with Kip Reed on four cuts.

TIME’S WASTIN’ is Dave’s newest CD. Blues through and through. Combining Rock-a-billy with Honky Tonk and Dave’s secret recipe for “you never know what’s going to happen next!” Featuring Rob Paparozzi (Blues Brothers) on harp. Lee Finkelstein (Blues Brothers) Kenny Soule, Dave Moore & Wes Little (Papa Chubby) and Mark Greenberg (Dickey Bettes) on drums. Erik Boyd on bass (Black 47). Paul Shapiro (Queen Latifah) and Rob Chaseman (Jimmy McGriff) on saxes.

TIME’S A WASTIN’. Here’s what people are saying about it:

David F Hughes producer/music director LAST OF THE MISSISSIPPI JUKES

Dave Fields delivers so much soul, emotion and shear passion with these recordings. As many times as I’ve heard Dave, he always sounds fresh. He continues to blow me away both live and on record with his virtuosity as a brilliant guitarist and “world class” producer. His singing? Why it’s as smooth as silk and he plays some fine piano and very tasty slide. The writing here is quite crafty, full of fun and games, and yet, a real sneak peek into the heart and the soul of Dave Fields. If you don’t know Mr. Fields yet, you’ll know him for sure after you hear this masterpiece. Man this stuff is timeless, inspired I must say.
Imagine if you threw a few mahtzah balls and a stalk of corn into a pot of collard greens? I like to refer to it as “Corn Fed Blues”. Believe me, everything you’re about to hear is all True. If you don’t believe it, just ask his Rabbi! I’ll stop talking and ya’ll start listening ‘cause TIME surely is A WASTIN’.

Press Reviews

Dave Rubin
Guitar Edge

"Field's understated, soulful and vulnerable vocals are the perfect foil for his emotionally charged guitar solos that respect the long blues tradition without being derivative. No one trick pony, Fields is an exceptionally talented young man on the New York City blues scene, equally proficient on Hammond B-3, piano, bass and drums. 12 originals on his one man band debut range from the rockin' shuffle blues of "Let's Get Shakin'" to the ethnic-bending slow "Rabbi Blues," the N'Awlins funk of "DF's Blues" and the Southern rock-infused "I'll Do You Right." "The Cure," the final track with Fields displaying his acoustic country blues creds, is an apt description of the healing power of his blues."

Chris Spector
Midwest Record

A young man with the blues that's just at home composing music for the Olympics as he is playing with either U2 or Bobby Rush, this is simply Fields kicking out the jams, with a few Blues Brothers and some players of note that are often seen backing up some real notables. Much more tastier and authentic than you might expect from a white boy, Fields is feeling it and you'd be smart to hop on for a wonderfully wild ride. Check it out.

Time's A Wastin' is a spirited journey through modern blues, with healthy doses of honky tonk, rock-a-billy, and even jazz mixed in.....an exhilarating concoction.

Dave Fields is that rarest of musicians- one who has been successful in both, the often diametrically opposed, worlds of commercial music and creative music for over 10 years. In the former, he's created an amazingly diverse body of music for an equally diverse range of clients and assignments ranging from song parodies to radio and television commercials all the way to film scores that only a musician of uncanny range, ability and flexibility could create. At the same time, he's constantly brought his latest original music to the public via both records and regular live appearances. His original music, especially his solo C.D.'s, show a musician who's managed to distill this extraordinary range of talent and influences into a unique sound and style that deserves to find a large audience."

"One of the top guitarists in NYC, this guy will blow you away. Look out for him, he's got something special here."

Barry Hirschberg
Independent Producer/Editor TV Land President Hirschberg Productions

“Rock, R&B, Jazz, Blues….There’s not a type of music that Dave Fields can’t play and play well! As a studio musician he is among the best I’ve ever worked with…and I’ve worked with the best! Tony Mottola, Vinnie Bell, Bob Rose, Jimmy Ryan, just to name few. Plus he’s an arranger, writer, incredible performer and a keyboard virtuoso as well!
To watch Dave Fields on stage is something you will never forget. He does things with a guitar that seem impossible and may make the most skilled guitarist feel inadequate!

Do yourself a favor and grab a copy of "FIELDS OF VISION". This CD lives in my player, every single cut is a favorite for one reason or another. May it be with the melodic joy ride it takes you on, the music production, the unique compositions or the STELLAR guitar work, Dave Fields nails it all in one spectacular package. Just when you can’t get enough of the CD....you go and see him “LIVE”. This is where you learn that there were no studio tricks! This is the REAL THING!--unfortunately the last song always comes too soon! I have been waiting for the "rock guitar genius" of today to make his presence known.... and finally,... HE IS HERE!... nice to meet you Dave Fields!

Frank-John Hadley DOWNBEAT MAGAZINE REVIEW March 2007

Roxy Perry: Back In Bluesville (Blue Perry Hill; 45:48) ***1/2 Perry hits pay dirt on her third album, building dramatic tension with a big, dark singing voice that shows her control over contemporary and traditional blues styles dating back to the 1920's. This longtime campaigner on the New York-Connecticut-New Jersey front is savvy about the importance of intonation and delivery to her craft. She also plays a good Chicago blues harmonica, and is fortunate to have Dave Fields around as her clear sighted co-writer, guitarist, keyboardist, album producer, arranger and engineer.

BluesSource.com (©) 2006,

….Dave Fields, who arranged and produced "Back In Bluesville", is definitely at his best on this CD. "Back In Bluesville" is such a great effort that we thought you'd like to know all about it … The arrangements by Dave Fields are extraordinary, with solid punch and great horn and rhythm lines. The first tune, "Back In Bluesville" will knock your socks off! Great care with the arrangements and the extra fine-tuning of the production is what makes this CD sizzle and it's what won Perry the award in Memphis.

CD review by Roger-Z
The Guitar Zone
Noted New York City session guitarist and producer Dave Fields cooks up an enticing brew of high energy rock and jazz on this mostly instrumental first CD. He takes the Gibson Guitar advertisement to heart - "Singing, wasted time between guitar solos." His assistant chefs include drummer Van Romaine (Steve Morse Band) and Wayne Krantz along with bassists Mike Viseglia (Suzanne Vega) and Wes Little. Dave handles production with assistance from Joe Barbaria (Talking Heads and Cars).

An enticing appetizer, I await the main course from this multi-talented artist.
