"Imagine the sound of music that invites you to a journey of the spirit, the sound of a bird, or a waterfall, the sound of a flute, in a far away place there there is no rush, no fear, no worry. The sound of peace."

Album Notes
Dave Harpe has been playing his unique style of music in restaurants, fairs and private parties in the Sacramento area since 1997, when he moved here from San Jose and from a very different kind of life. He worked in various areas of the electronic industry since his arrival in California in 1979, and has seen many changes in those years. He saw the industry get faster, more stressful, and more oriented toward quick profits and grossly overpaid executives, at the expense of quality, both in the workplace, and in the products. He takes great pride in his work, whatever it may be, and it became increasingly difficult to do things well in an environment where speed was of paramount importance. This is why he is not in this industry today.
Dave has been playing music one way or another, mostly as a hobby since he was 14 years old, starting with folk songs and a guitar, and later learning keyboard, flute, drums, and the didgeridoo. He makes some of his own electronic equipment and most of his own flutes, many of which are of native American or Asian heritage. He recorded Earthtones, his first CD, while still in San Jose, and many who heard it praised it highly. In November of 1997, at the age of 42, he made the biggest move in his life, changing both his home town and his career at the same time. He is now living in Sacramento, playing and recording music as a vocation and a way of life, and he continues to learn more and try new things, such as computer sequencing and digital recording, as well as new guitar techniques which work well with his present musical interests. At present, he has released 4 CDs, Earthtones, Didgeridoo Dreams, Spiritsong, and Gentle Winds. They are distinctive, beautiful, and unlike anything most people have heard before.
His music is quite a departure from the usual fare heard on radio stations or played by local bands. Far more soothing and relaxing, it is a favorite among massage therapists and other healing professionals, as well as teachers and anyone who needs to reduce stress in the lives of other people, or their own. Perhaps, through people like Dave, a new style of music and thought is emerging. Or is it so new? Maybe it’s just a return to an ancient, forgotten time, a return home.
