Album Notes
Produced by Jimmy Haslip (Yellowjackets, Jeff Lorber Fusion), this recording features Dave's regular group; Dan Zemelman, piano and keyboards, Aaron Germain, basses, and Alan Hall, drums. Guest artists include long time friends and founding members of the Yellowjackets, Robben Ford, guitar; Russell Ferrante, piano and synthesizer; Jimmy Haslip, bass; along with Robben Ford Band veteran, Toss Panos on drums.

PIVOT POINT presents eight new compositions in the contemporary jazz/fusion genre composed by Dave Haskell, including one especially written for the reunion with Robben Ford. Robben also contributes a composition from the seldom-highlighted part of his vocabulary influenced by Wes Montgomery. Rounding out the set is an arrangement of a Herbie Hancock up-tempo classic “Eye of the Hurricane”.

The material emphasizes the compositional and improvisational elements, highlighting all the players individually. It’s an explosive set of music with varied sonic textures including both electric and acoustic settings.

“Pivot Point is quite simply classy stuff from start to finish. Haskell is a remarkable guitarist who doesn't overplay, and his lyrical style shapes these melodic songs just perfectly.” – Peter Pardo, Sea of Tranquility

"Haskell's group is a quartet, but he can boast of impressive guests beside them: the aforementioned Robben Ford, Russ Ferrante, and Haslip, all of them industry stars, and then Toss Panos, drummer for a number of outstanding progfusion groups…” – Mark Tucker, F.A.M.E.

"Tasty guitar driven fusion jazz/rock, this is a set for anyone that misses the heyday of the genre and is hungry for something new that hit’s the spot. Well done.” – Chris Spector, Midwest Record

“A can't-miss release… Haskell's clean, angular playing is executed with surgical precision and fluid tone rarely heard today.” – Brett Black, Critical Jazz
