Album Notes

Years ago, I remember reading a New York Times article about happiness in one’s career. If my memory serves me right, being a college professor was at the top of the list. This recording is a big Thank You to Hofstra University for giving me the career happiness that I have had for all these years. With my three rhythm section Hofstra colleagues and my dear three singing Hofstra alumnae, The Hofstra Songbook presents my original songs that convey my deepest love and appreciation to the institution, colleagues, and most of all, the students that have allowed me the ebb and flow of creative ideas in a giving, familial environment.

The Hofstra Songbook Liner Notes

All my years in academia have given me the opportunity to advise many young people. That privilege never ceases to amaze me especially when it comes to our similarities and all our shared Children’s Dreams. From the beginning of their life-long learning to These Days of uncertainty, they all pursue an embracing curiosity through The Act of Wonder. And like all parents, I caution them of the fluctuation of confidence in all their pursuits, encouraging them to Keep Believin’ in themselves, especially during the hard times.

Inevitably all of us suffer some form of anxiety or depression when it comes to life’s challenges. I believe sharing such feelings and thoughts with others is a good start for the healing process. Simply asking “Where Are Your Tears?” can show how much you care and that they are not alone.

The brighter side of this interaction is to see them fall head-over-heels for a peer in their lives. If fortunate, at one time or another they might find someone and discover That Love Could Feel This Way if only we Take Time to appreciate it. But as we all know, sometimes it doesn’t work out the way we planned and we might have to Say Goodbye and move on.

Most endings do however result in new beginnings. Given the rebirth of spring, some toy with the idea to Fall in Love Again in the summer of their lives and use October to reflect on love, life and happiness through the prism of the autumn leaves.

As a fortunate observer of the maturation of students in many aspects of life, I try to encourage them to continue day after day and Night After Night with the realization that the world is theirs. Embrace it. Nurture it. And share it with people they love.

So, I offer this music For You, dear students, and advise everyone that when it comes to life and love, Enjoy It While You Can…
