Album Notes
We're very grateful to Mr. Mickey Maguire who said this about Constellation in Ukulele Players Magazine. "If you want to hear ukulele, not ukulele struggling to be heard (buried among the other instruments) you'll enjoy Davenport Johnson. Other acts throw in a uke among the other instruments because it is trendy, That is not the case here. It's obvious these guys love ukulele... I enjoyed every track... "Constellation" is... well crafted, well mastered... music that will have you feeling good. I highly recommend it. Excellent work!" (You can read the whole review in CD Review section of his free on-line magazine --- which we recommend for lots of other stuff too! ;-)

Why is it called "Constellation." When you look up into the night sky you see unrelated stars that, from our earthly
point of view, seem to be so close together as to form connected pictures... constellations. Such are the songs
on this CD. While they express music in a few different styles, from our point of view they form a bigger picture
that will hold them together forever in our eyes (and ears!)

Davenport Johnson started out as two guys playing with each other for the pure fun of making music. We just
loved that special feeling that came when we were both lost in the sound and everything seemed to flow
together of it's own accord. For this release we’ve expanded our sound on here to include bass, some
harmonica and a few vocals as well.

What exactly does Davenport Johnson sound like? Some fans have described us as Americana. But we also
incorporate elements of folk, rock, jazz, newgrass and pop, too. Holding it all together is the fact that every song
is performed with ukulele leads. We may need a new genre to describe it correctly. Alt. Folk? Art Folk?

The tracks on this album are split down the middle between the familiar acoustic sound most people associate
with a ukulele and an electric uke producing a sound pretty much no one thinks of when you mention the four-
stringed diminutive instrument.

Ukulele Player Magazine recently said “Constellation is... well crafted, well mastered music that will have you
feeling good. I highly recommend it! Excellent work!” and a fan at Ukulele Underground said, “Tasty lead
picking with emotional depth... these guys sound like they are having a blast playing their original compositions!
I am really enjoying Davenport Johnsons new CD!” But this isn’t just music for uke lovers, this is music for
music lovers as you’ll be finding out very soon.

We sincerely hope you enjoy this album as much as we enjoyed recording it. There's a quote on the back of the cover that says, "Lay back on the grass to stare at the night sky and become a child again." We really do feel like kids again
when we go out and stare up at the night sky, just like we do when we get lost in making our music.

We hope you'll take a chance and get your own copy of Constellation.

Thanks for reading down this far.
