Album Notes
This collection of original music (excluding track #6) is based on the theme of hockey. I'm known in most circles as a founding member of the eclectic jazz band "The Shuffle Demons" with whom I played and recorded with for ten wonderful years. I'm the guy who wrote "Spadina Bus", "Out of my House Roach" and "Yukon Girl". If you know those tunes, you know that my songwriting is influenced by all types of musical genres.

In addition to my passion for music, I love the game of hockey. There are many reasons for this but the one most related to music is the freedom I feel when playing the game. It is fast, gravity defying and improvised. It's the same feeling I get when playing music! You can read more about my hockey-jazz philosophy on my website at daveparkersax.com.

The collection of songs on this album express my passion for the game of hockey and the winter season. It’s an eclectic mix of styles from the romantic “Wintertime” to country/rock, “Hockey Was Invented by a Nova Scotian” to folk, “The Ballad of James Creighton”, a bluesy “Hockey in Heaven” and a rocking “Just Above the Planet Earth”. I even put on a cover version of “Hockey Night in Canada” recorded by my sax quartet “Sax-o-matic” (sax-o-matic.com)

There is also a bit of history being told here. "Hockey Was Invented by a Nova Scotian" and "The Ballad of James Creighton" both tell stories of how hockey's roots can most probably be traced to Nova Scotia and the historic town of Windsor. (my hometown)
