Album Notes
I’m Dave Westner. I am a creative sound recording engineer, music producer, mixer and a singer songwriter, Boston, Massachusetts born, bred & based. I’m a left-brained organizer working with right-brained musicians. Great combo! My interest and love for recording was sparked at age 14 when I played drums for a recording session at Euphoria Sound in Revere. The Keyboard Player in that band offered me his Fostex X-15 four track so I could capture some sounds in my parents’ basement…my passion in life was set! I got my first studio gig as an assistant sound engineer at the ripe old age of 16 & then spent a few years studying music at Berklee College of Music before opening my own studio in Charlestown. To hone my mixing skills & pay my bills early on I was sound guy at the original House of Blues in Cambridge, MA and the Middle East Cafe back in the 90s, which lead me to working at many many more live venues. The experience certainly paid off, especially for my clients as I’m quick & accurate at mixing and have developed some great techniques in studio engineering that gets the artists to concentrate on exactly what’s needed and not waste their time and money.

I have recorded, produced, mixed, and performed with an astonishing number of very talented musicians all over New England, New York and beyond. I’ve worked in many a studio around town but since 1998 I have been happy to call Woolly Mammoth Sound (formally in the Boston’s Fenway, but now located in Waltham) my recording home. I’ve welcomed all genres of music into the studio and enjoy variety which has lead me to develop a wide range of technical skills that both embrace & enhance all kinds of music along with a deep understanding of what is need to achieve great sound, big studio quality sound on a small studio budget and this I can do. As a musician, I play all things percussion, drums was my first love, bass my second, I have done a few tours in America, Germany & Austria playing both. I’m no slouch on the guitar, piano and keyboard and have played on a slew of albums I have recorded in the studio (plus the odd basement & barn). I’m a singer songwriter & produce my own music, I enjoy playing live gigs and I actively support Boston’s original music scene. I couldn’t imagine life without music & sound and honestly after all these years I’m still totally in love with making music.
