Legendary KC Jazz Artists to Celebrate New CD—Live at Pilgrim Chapel

Kansas City, MO: On Sunday, February 21, 2016, legendary jazz artists David Basse and Joe Cartwright will celebrate the release of their new CD Live at Pilgrim Chapel with a concert at Kansas City’s historic Pilgrim Chapel, 3801 Gilham Road, Kansas City, MO 64111.

If anyone embodies the sound and spirit of Kansas City, it’s Joe Cartwright and David Basse. Together and separately, the duo has become known over the past 40 years to represent a jazz musical tradition that began over 100 years ago. Pilgrim Chapel Board member Kaye Johnson approached David and Joe about performing in the chapel. It seemed a natural place for the two to record a CD. Joe and his wife, Jan, were married in the chapel, the room has a great feel, and the recording would be simple -- Joe on a keyboard and David’s vocals. Bob Walkenhorst, Kansas City-based singer, songwriter, musician/painter, recorded the show. Reverend Roger Coleman, recently retired director of the chapel, watched it all come together.

About David Basse
With seven albums to his credit and an award winning career in radio, David Basse has a warm and inviting voice that draws listeners in. He has recorded with jazz artists Mike Melvoin, Phil Woods and Jay McShann. David’s bands have been featured at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and Jazz Aspen Snowmass. He was honored to be part of special performances in Hong Kong and London.

About Joe Cartwright
Live at Pilgrim Chapel is the fifth release on Cartwright's own record label, Lafayette Music. Joe has toured the world representing Kansas City at The World’s Fair in Seville, Spain and in the Middle East, Africa, and Southeast Asia as part of the Kennedy Center’s jazz touring program. Joe has appeared in concert with Eddie Harris, Sheila Jordon, Mel Torme and bluesman Jimmy Witherspoon. He has been a featured soloist with the Kansas City Symphony.

Basse and Cartwright are cast members of NPR's critically acclaimed radio show "12th Street Jump." David’s latest syndicated radio show, “Jazz with David Basse,” is produced by David and Joe.
