Snappy

Bentley and I listen to your album because we miss playing fetch with you.
David's music ROCKS. In his lyrics, we sense a deep understanding of four-legged creatures. We hope some day he will write a song about the great, late Edward G. Robinson.

Cuts that reveal the inner-workings of complicated states of mind
ReallySuperGood is a rarity: an albumful of crafty songs that makes demands on your feet and mind. Dyas is rooted deep in the most fertile of eclectic pop soil: the loam of Elvis Costello, Roddy Frame, Bob Mould, Andy Partridge and Marshall Crenshaw. But his roots are not exposed--you won't listen to ReallySuperGood saying "Oh, that's his Costello song", for example. No; Dyas has internalized his influences completely; there're no borrowed riffs or rhythyms or bits on the album. Instead, Dyas' songs are transforming catalysts. His songs relate to songs by his influences not by sounding like those songs, but by changing the way you hear those songs--revealing new things about the old songs to you. Test what I've said: listen to "October Man" and then to Marshall Crenshaw; or to "Wired and Stained" and then to Aztec Camera.
Perhaps the most striking feature of the cuts on the album is the way that they manage never quite to fit the standard categories: there're no love songs, exactly. There're no anthems, exactly. There's no...whatever, exactly. Instead, there are exacting revelations of complicated states of mind. Listen to "Undertaker" or to "Saturn Return" and then say of either one that it's a standard failed-love song. Listen to "Oblivion" and then say that it is a standard song about transcendent longings. (Pay especial attention to the imagery that drives "Oblivion".)
No one should let the fact that a proper response to ReallySuperGood involves the intellect blind him to another fact about it: it rocks! It's just that when you turn your stereo up, you don't have to turn mind down.
ReallySuperGood really is reallysupergood.

The New Low Times

Bob Mould infused rock with intelligent, Costello-style lyrics
Good songs, great lyrics. While everybody else waits around for a "record deal," David has made a "Really Super Good" record on his own. And though it may be under-publicized, it is no less a remarkable accomplishment and an inspiration to those of us who are music fans and musicians alike. Definitely something worth paying for. Buy it.

Great CD! A sleeper waiting to happen!
This CD is addictive. I listen to the songs over and over and enjoy them even more the next time I hear them. What a fete for this artist. He writes the lyrics, music, sings and plays the guitar! Someone needs to take these talents and run with them!

David, Your mother and I went to grammar school and high school together. We were in each others weddings. When she told me about your new CD, I just had to try it. It is really good. Keep up the good work. Ella

if you like this album, see him perform live
Not only does this album have intelligent and provocative lyrics, it ROCKS! This is the best of both worlds. And David is awesome live, too.
