ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
I started writing this oratorio in 1978 as a learning exercise. The core of it--45 minutes--was completed in 1981 and performed in a church. Periodically I would get an idea, e.g., John the Baptist, and find myself putting together a libretto from scripture that would capture the essence of that person or event and then setting it to music. It finally came to a head in 2005 when I was encouraged by friends to finish it and re-orchestrate it for high quality instrumentalists.

The time spent writing the music and then the engraving, editing, and parts extraction had to come after work, family, and church duties so it took until April 15, 2009 to be completed.

Since scripture comes from differing writers, cultures, languages, and time periods it has an eclectic feel to it, but the overall spirit and messages seem to repeat themselves. Testament is about "peace" (harmony) first and foremost with the understanding that it comes with a price (discord). The story of Jesus of Nazareth can be and has been a very important part of so many lives, each with his or her own ideas as to the meanings of the many parts it contains. It is my wish for listeners to be able to comfortably place whatever belief systems they choose into this work, enjoy the story, and leave edified, lifted, and with the conviction to work for peace every way possible.

A full list of participants will be forthcoming either here or on my personal website along with other titles and choral and vocal solos for sale.
