ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Soulman © David A. Kowal

Big Johnny was a friend of mine
He used to drive me to school everyday
He left his wife Nellie at home
To raise and take care of their beautiful baby boy
Now Johnny didn’t know it, but he had soul
He was a man who was true to his word
His dreams for his baby boy were simple
When he’s a man he’d say,
This is what I hope he always remembers

Daddy was a Soulman
Daddy worked real hard
Daddy loved his family
It’s how he made his stand

I didn’t understand the meaning of Johnny’s heart-felt wish
I was just a little boy
And like the wipers on his windshield of his ’57 Chevy
Time passed with slow sweet innocence.
As a man I try to right but it ain’t easy to in this hard cruel world
But I remember back on cold morning’s in Johnny’s car
Halfway to school the heat would come on
He’d smile and tell me to be careful
I would say, I’ll just always remember

Daddy was a Soulman
Daddy worked real hard
Daddy loved his family
It’s how he made his stand

Now he used to tell me you know your daddy works hard too
Gets up early goes off to work
He had dreams just like any other young man
He’s trying to make the scene right so that you can live yours too
Just remember when things don’t seem right in your life
You can always look back and say you know I always remember
That your daddy was a Soulman too
And like so many uncounted hero’s in this world

Daddy was a Soulman
Daddy worked real hard
Daddy loved his family
It’s how he made his stand
