Album Notes
I was born in the small town of Dunfermline, Scotland. The town was the former house of many Kings and Queens and its name comes from the ancient Galeic word Dún meaning fortified hill. You can imagine an entire hill covered in grey brick medieval buildings surrounded by the green landscape that characterises Scotland. I never realised it at the time but this was a truly inspiring place to grow up!

At the age of 16, I left home and started traveling around Scotland playing music. After a few years I settled for a while in the city of Dundee. All in all I had a great life there, playing in a few different bands and teaching guitar, but something was missing. I kept getting more and more of an urge to travel with my music until one day I decided to sell almost everything I owned and jumped on a plane to mainland Europe. This was one of the most important decisions I have made in my life and has took my on a journey all over Europe, North and Latin America.

There has been a lot of ups and downs over the years. One dramatic example was when I moved to Mexico City in 2012. After being there for only two weeks I had a very bad fall and broke my elbow. I had an exposed fracture and needed reconstructive surgery. It was 6 months before I could play again and about another 6 months of retraining myself how to play the guitar. To look on the bright side of this, it was a great time to analyze my playing and I do think I am a better musician because of it.

Life is an Improvised Journey, you never know what will happen, you just need to go with the flow… It has certainly been the case for me since leaving Scotland. I recently moved from Mexico to The Netherlands and as I am continuing on this path, it is the perfect time to release this album marking another milestone in my life.

Improvised Journey Reviews:

Eric Wakenius - Jazz Guitarist in world famous duet project Ulf and Eric Wakenius Due from Gothenburg Sweden

I've just been listening to your record and all I have to say is, two thumbs up!! I especially liked your version of Stella By Starlight!! Keep up the good work!!

Andrew Tullock - one of the UK’s most respected Studio Engineers and Producers from London, England

Improvised Journey – "David plays with a unique twist, full of sweeps and unexpected turns. A virtuosic passage through original compositions, and some more familiar tunes. It was a pleasure to work on the album".

Peter Finger – World Famous Virtuoso Acoustic Guitarist from Osnabrück, Germany

’There is not much to say - you are a great player’

Scott Perry - Vintage Blues Guitarist from Floyd Virginia, USA

The first thing that struck me is that it is VERY good! I was immediately struck by the quality of the recording and the tone of your guitar. Whoever/however recorded it did a spectacular job! Your playing shows lots of skill and, more importantly (to me), a great feel. As I am dabbling a bit in finger style jazz w/ Martin Taylor I feel that I have some insight into how difficult it is to hold everything together (melody/lines, harmony, bass lines, rhythm/groove, etc.). I thought your playing had a great groove/feel on every track and revealed fantastic technique and a virtuosic flair that was very engaging. I particularly enjoyed your original tunes. Well done!

My overall impression was that you are an extraordinarily talented player with a great rhythmic and improvisational sense and that the recordings sounded fantastic. I also like the artwork! I really enjoyed the tracks and plan on keeping them in my road-trip playlist.

Si Hayden – Acoustic Guitar Virtuoso from Coventry, England

"David MacGregor's new solo jazz guitar album really takes you on a trip! Aptly named 'Improvised Journey' it's like a studio-take on his international travels; an audio tour-journal capturing a real gem of a recording."

Henry Stax - CEO at Guitar Player Collective from Miami, Florida USA

David MacGregors' Improvised Journey" is a journey indeed, a soulful winding tale that sonically captures the landscapes of a well traveled musician. The sonic quality of the this record is stunning with a lot of warm lows and mids, and just enough sparkle on top to really entice the senses.

Listening to this album I can easily see myself sitting at a coffee shop endulging in an overpriced hot caffienated beverage, Likewise, sipping some wine on a cool summer night would be accompanied beautiful with this soundtrack! David is an accomplished musician and it shows in this collection of songs that is equal parts virtuosic and melodic! A collection of songs that would fit in any Guitar/Music lovers library wonderfully!!!

Dario Napoli - Manouche and Gipsy Jazz Guitarist from Cortona, Italy

"Crystal clear sounds, majestic arrangements, a blend of Tommy Emmanuel and Tuck Andress in his own style".

Dave Arcari - touring musician/songwriter from Glasgow, Scotland

'Music and playing is Great'
