ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes

~In loving memory of Randy Mead~

In August of 2012 I lost my friend and music partner of 40 years, flutist Randy Mead, to a heart attack. Many of the instruments I have taken up through the decades were by his suggestions – a few were actually his own inventions. He opened my ears to early music and worldwide styles and was a steadfast companion on and off stage.

Above the Clouds is dedicated to him as his influence on my music was profound. The guitar/flute orientation on this recording seems appropriate, reminding me of the inspiration of our early years before I began playing the harp. As I developed this suite, I felt his spirit with me, whispering ideas into my ears. Randy, if you can hear the music, I hope you are smiling...
-David Michael.

Above The Clouds - In Memory of Randy Mead,
It is always sad to lose a close friend who has inspired one to new heights in music exploration. Both David and Randy were an inspiration in their collaboration on the first two albums which I truly loved, " Keystone Passage," and "Petals in the Stream." Both myself and my husband met Michael on the ferryboat were David wonderfully played the song titled "Keystone Passage." We were so glad to hear him passionately play the harp as the magic of the harp flowed with a gentle grace that spoke volumes. It was a wonderful experience that we will always cherish. This album is a wonderful expression of Randy Mead essence. Thanks David - I know Randy would be pleased and blessed by this wonderful album. Also, thanks for the many years of service on the ferryboat.
