Album Notes
Born in 1978 in Valais, Switzerland, David Rey felt in love with the trombone at the age of 12 and joined the "Ancienne Cécilia" band of Chermignon . After obtaining a degree insocio-economics, he entered the class of Mr. Roland Schnorhk and then later Andrea Bandini at the Conservatory of Music of Geneva. In 2001 he graduated recieving first prize of virtuosity with honors. In 2002 he received his degree as an orchestral musician and in 2003 he was awarded a teaching diploma. A winner of multipleawards including prizes from Ernst Göhner, Irene Dénériaz, David has also participated in several Swiss competitions such as Valais Championship (CH) where he was the 1995 all categories champion and national trombone champion in1 996. That year, he also won first prize with distinction from „Jeunesses Musicales"of Switzerland. Other international prizes include semifinalist at Porcia (IT)in 2000 and first prize of Riddes (CH) in 2003.

After debuting as an apprentice with the Biel orchestra (2001-2002), he became a regular participant at the VerbierFestival Orchestra (2002-2007). He held the position of principal trombone at the orchestra of Durban during 2003-2004 (South Africa). At the same time, in an effort to cross musical boundaries David taught at the University of Natal(RSA). After an interim at the opera in Malmö (Sweden) in 2006, David Rey became solo trombone of the Brussels Philharmonic starting 2008. He currently divides his musical activity between Brussels and Switzerland where he performs with th Geneva Brass Quintet, an ensemble gaining a world-wide recognition through their regular international tours.
As an orchestral musician, Davidhas performed with some of the world's greatest conductors such as J. Levine,K. Masur, M. Rostropovich, V. Gergiev, Ch. Dutoit, M. Tabachnik, ...

Constantly insearch of other musical experiences, David regularly performs as a soloist invarious ensembles from alone with the piano to trombone choirs or brass bandsand symphony orchestras. He is also a busy chamber musician, mostly with the « GenevaBrass Quintet ». David has had several works written for him which he premiered with dedication. Always openminded, he often enjoys playing transcriptions of works not originally written for trombone.David is a Bach Artist since 2014.

As a teacher he works with students to adults, professionals to amateurs inorder share his rich professional experience. From age 17 David has shared his passionfor the trombone. Through lecturesand masterclasses David has gained an international reputation as a musical educator.
