Album Notes
NEW from David Roth - “Practice Makes Progress” - his latest enhanced CD of “easy-listening-protest-music” has 16 original songs plus a video of the title cut covering a wide variety of subjects from poignant to political, holistic, historical, and hilarious. Co-produced in Louisville with Grammy-nominee Fred Bogert, the songs touch on a songwriter’s life, media obsession with celebrities, accelerated learning models, personal growth through cancer, Ghandi’s introduction of civil disobedience to the world on September 11th, 1906, gratitude, an extraordinary story of a clean-up effort in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, a humorous country-western take on relationships, history of the space program, the celebration of imperfection, one family's story of Middle East conflict resolution, a visit to Panama, appreciation of small treasures, a song for Cindy Sheehan, a co-write with 92 third-graders on the theme of living together in peace, and a ukulele lullaby.

David is a singer, songwriter, recording artist, and community-builder who has earned top honors at premier songwriter competitions - Kerrville (TX) and Falcon Ridge (NY) - and taken his music, experience, and expertise to a wide variety of venues in this and other countries over the last two decades. David’s songs have found their way to Carnegie Hall, the United Nations, several Chicken Soup for the Soul books, Peter, Paul, & Mary concerts, NASA’s Goddard Space Center, and 10 recordings on the Wind River and Stockfisch (Germany) labels. Featured on many of Christine Lavin’s Rounder compilations, the former artist-in-residence at New York’s Omega Institute (and two-time national anthem singer for the Michael Jordan-era Chicago Bulls) has also been a songwriting judge at Kerrville, Napa Valley (CA), Tumbleweed (WA), Eventide Arts (MA), and the South Florida Folk Festival. He’s also taught singing, songwriting, and performance at the Augusta Heritage workshops (WV), Puget Sound Guitar Workshop (WA), Common Ground on the Hill (MD), Rowe Center (MA), Swannanoa Gatherings (NC), Pendle Hill (PA), Lamb’s Retreat (MI), Wisconsin Stringalongs, the National Wellness Institute (WI), and for many other songwriting groups and associations around the country. 2008 marks David’s 21st year of full-time original-music-making in concert halls, conferences, coffeehouses, camps, retreats, corporate trainings, and special events of all kinds throughout North America. David strikes many chords, hearts, and minds with his unique music, moving tales, offbeat observations, and powerful singing and subject matter.

"David and his music will touch you to the very depths of your soul. He’ll make you laugh and cry, inspire you to rise and fly..." Jack Canfield, co-author, Chicken Soup for the Soul

"Practice Makes Progress" has all the components one has come to love in David Roth's work: thoughtful reflection on social issues, stories of personal triumph over trials, poignant love songs, and flat-out, no-holds-barred fun! Clear the floor, cuz you'll want room to dance! This CD has at least three tunes that just won't let you sit still. Co-produced with Fred Bogert, who adds, among other things, high-energy piano stylings to match Roth's steamin' guitar. Also new to this CD is a video of the title song on the disk along with the music.
