ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This collection of original works for chamber music ensembles uses typical instruments including winds, strings and percussion, but with some unusual pairings and emphasis. One sextet feature harp and acoustic bass, one trio uses two acoustic guitars and cello. The piece for alto flute and guitar make an especially nice combination that is rarely heard. The work is influenced by orchestral arrangements where different types of instruments are combined for a variety of sound textures within a piece. Short rhythmic themes often define the musical phrases. Traditional harmonies predominate, but with a little added "edge." Locations and seasons very often define and inspire the music.
