ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
About David Spann and the Band.
David has been a musician in the Austin scene since the late ‘70’s as a teen sneaking into bars and playing in bands with older musicians. David was lucky enough to meet guitar legend Eric Johnson and David's band got to open a few shows for Eric's band in Texas 1983-’86. Eventually, David got the privilege to play with Eric's bassist Kyle Brock for 3-years, Kyle rejoined Eric in '88 and they recorded “Ah Via Musicom”. David respects these musicians and is very grateful for the honor of their friendship.
Other powerful personal musical influences include Steve Walsh ("Kansas" front man, Vocals / Keyboards). Steve left "Kansas" (the band right?) in the early '80's and David was the original guitarist for his solo band "Streets". Steve is a fantastic musician, singer, songwriter and good guy too.
Eddie Cantu, Eric Irvine, Tom Jackson, Kenny Sharretts, Steve Haas, Ed Miles, Alex Espinosa, Mitch Elliot and Jimmy Umpstadtt are other past band mates who’ve left their mark on David’s music.
David is probably more known as a Vox and Marshall Guitar Product specialist for Korg USA. A full time guitar gear geek '00 - '08. This was a lot of fun playing lots of guitar, meeting fantastic people, musicians and traveling all over (It was an 8-year tour). He traveled and performed in 46 of the 50 United States, Germany, England, Poland, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Bosnia, Hungary, Canada, Mexico and Indonesia. A lot of these clinics are recorded and posted on YouTube.com here's a couple links if you would like to check some out (There is probably a slew of performances posted in non-English, who knows?)
David still does some work with Korg, Marshall and Vox, like fall' of 2008’s 21-day Vox Tour of Eastern Europe and 2009's SXSW booth in his hometown of Austin, Texas. He’s a guitar instructor at Austin School of Music since the summer of 2008 too.
Guitar World Magazine's; Vox Tonelab LE video featured David's demo and it has been viewed well over 100,000 times.
Guitar Player Magazine has featured pictures of David as a popular product specialist in print and online, also Eric Johnson mentioned David as a favorite unknown guitarist in his Guitar Player Magazine May ’86 cover story.
David's groups have been opening acts with many famous guitarists (and his heroes) to name a few; Stevie Ray Vaughn, Al DiMeola, Robin Trower, Yngwie Malmsteen, Johnny Winter, Pat Travers, BB King, Los Lonely Boys, Jon Schofield, Roy Buchanan…etc even The Beach Boys.
Discography would include; ’82 Triple XXX’s “Uncut and Uncensored”, ‘88 David Spann “Rocks Texas”, ’97 David Spann “Distant Light” and the latest ’09 David Spann Band “Shadow the Land”

The Band Mates

Ron Wilson plays many styles of bass and has even invented his own “Goliath I” nine string bass. He’s played with all kinds of artists and even sat in with ZZ Top at George W Bush’s 2nd inaugural ball… (Take a second here to grasp how cool that is…sitting in with ZZ that is). Ron also was a close friend, attorney, manager and bassist with the late and I mean great “Lightning Hopkins” legendary bluesman and huge influence on Billy Gibbons, Johnny Winter and all the gulf coast bad ass guitar players of the ‘70’s. Ron and David have played together since 1998.
Ron is also the band’s leader, David is the musical director, and Jayme is the pace-setter and total mood enhancement.

Jayme Jernigan has played drums and raced motorcycles his whole life. Cut his teeth on AC/DC, then Rush, and then moved into a realm of intense jazz fusion. It has only been in the last year or so that he has moved into fusing all his rock and fusion elements into the simple act of making a band tic. Jayme’s first live performance was sitting in with Thin Lizzy at the tender age of 10 years old…you’ll probably want to ask him how that happened? Jayme joined Ron and David in the summer of 2008 in the production of “Shadow the Land” CD.
