Distant Light

by David Spann

Distant Light; features genre hop-scotch from prog rock, fusion, country rock, funk and pop. What doesn't change is the intense musicianship; not just David's guitar playing but state-of-the-art drummers and bassists. Strong songs, great performances.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The musical stylings of David Spann are diverse; if you can get your head around a Jimi Hendrix nut, with a devotion to Johnny Winter and Return to Forever.
Into to Led Zepplin and Cream, the power trio super groups are all major influences.
David lucked out and got the opportunity to record and write music with Steve Walsh (the group "Kansas" lead vocalist) in an early incarnation of what became Steve's group "Streets", David was barely 20-years-old and is not on any Streets recordings, but the experience of playing with a killer progressive rock artist, lead vocalist / keyboards left an uneraseable mark on David's musical identity.

"Distant Light" is David's first CD and is a compilation of recording sessions that span almost a decade. Most all the killer line-ups that passed thru the band.
Bassist Kyle Brock; who left the group to rejoin Eric Johnson and they recorded Johnson's Ah Via Musicom. Super-Star drummer Eddie Cantu who has recorded and played with every professional Texas artist in south / central Texas. Other drummers include Tony Edwards, Ed Miles, Preston Hunt, Mickey McGee, Zack Hartman. Additional bassists Ted Sweeney, Tom Jackson, Eric Irvine.

Shortly after releasing Distant Light, David went to work for Korg USA as a Guitar Product Specialist, as a gear nut and guitar playing fiend. In this capacity he got to travel the world and talk music and gear with fellow musicians. The intensity and devotion exemplified by so many fellow musicians around the world to their art, has been a source of inspiration and further musical breakthroughs.

"Distant Light" absolutely rocks from the firs tune to the last, boogie rock, fusion, blues to the Yngwie Malmsteen-ish Valley of the King, it is a proud effort and probably the best collection of David's playing available at present.
