ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Born in Akron, Ohio and now calling San Francisco home, Davis Jones collaborates with Tim Mooney (American Music Club, Chuck Prophet, Mark Kozelek of Red House Painters, and Hannah Marcus) at Closer Recording for his upcoming record, Shadows & Gardens.

Jones’ smoky, soulful voice carries pleasantly dark lyrics accompanying melodic tunes ranging from deliberate, catchy folk to literate acoustic rock. His earlier acoustic work gives the serene sense of cozying up in a dim coffee house watching him strum his guitar in front of the burning embers of a fireplace. His fifth release, Shadows & Gardens, blends soulful songwriting, rich instrumentation and sepia toned production quality for a classic and organic sound. The album is drizzled with the darkness of shadows while the melodies contain traces of the bright, colorful attributes of a blooming garden.

When Jones discussed the writing process for all of his albums, he said “songs represent moments or feelings in time and they don’t feel finished until they’ve been recorded. A big part of moving forward in my life requires capturing a collection of these moments. They represent chapters and closure.” Spontaneity remains at the heart of Jones’ recording process, ensuring that the moment in time is captured, causing his music to evolve as he does.
