ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Raised between the homes of a Detroit schoolteacher and an Upper Peninsula outdoorsman, Joshua Davis is the product of both city and country. An early interest in songwriting, country blues and finger-style guitarists paved the way for his original material, which is a seamless union of new and old. After six years and three albums as the primary songwriter and vocalist of the Michigan quartet Steppin’ In It, Davis tracked his first solo record, Fool Rooster. Recorded entirely live and in a few short days, Fool Rooster is a raw, earthy counterpoint to the world of processed pitch and studio tricks. The album is a collection of original compositions; vintage Americana, rural and urban history and autobiography bound together with wry humor.

Great song - Americana at this finest.
A terrific CD that is as American as apple pie. Josh creates an emotional connection to the tracks that is rare to capture.

Excellent Roots Rock!
Having heard his band Steppin in it on BBC radio I bought this CD and it has a rockier feel to it. The closest comparison I can give is John Mellencamp circa the Lonesome Jubilee album. Buy this and you won't be disappointed. When are they playing Scotland?

See this guy and his band live
I have not listened to the whole album, but the stuff i've heard sounds exactly like the live things i heard tonight. He is an excellent songwriter, and it shows on this record with a very eclectic choice of material. The musicianship is fantastic and the recording sounds very natural but with just as much quality as a dead studio recording.

Nice, homey feel
I miss the sounds coming out of Michigan, and this album pulls on my ears. It brings a nice mixture of talents who demonstrate musically how to have a good time, and of course, Josh's voice blends so nicely with it all. Thank you.

Fantastic.
Joshua Davis in Fool Rooster manages to capture an honest and sincere picture of dusty and dejected but resillient America. The group of artists within Earthwork Music (Steppin In It, Seth Bernard, May Erlewine, etc. earthworkmusic.com) only accent his already brilliant lyric and chord structure. When it comes to capturing the soul of the Michigan working class his music does better than any other I know.
