Album Notes
Dawn Anita has recorded many albums over the years and written many a tune, but this album is without question the greatest selection of well-written, delightful tunes, and nine of the eleven songs were penned by her. You will be captivated by her well researched and truly poignant song “Pony Express” as you ride down the trail with these courageous young riders of the Pony Express. Her western background shines through in her songs “Sook Sook Cowboy” and “My Pinto Pony,” and those of you who have faith will be drawn to her song “Drivin’ His Cattle Home,” which lets you know that if you believe in God, you can overcome all obstacles. This is especially true in her patriotic song “Allegiance to the Flag,” which came to her in the middle of the night and inspired her to get up at 4 am to complete the song. Those of you who are patriotic and love the USA will definitely want to hear this song over and over. Having cut her teeth on western swing early in her career, you will be delighted with her upbeat, fun-filled songs “Stand Up, I’m Talking About Texas,” and “Friday Night Cowboy. She released “Stand Up, I’m Talking About Texas,” as a single prior to the release of her album, and it immediately became a favorite of the DJ’s and was the No 1 Most Played Song in the Fall 2019 Western Way magazine She included an old-time cowboy song that she learned as a child from Eddy Arnold called “Cattle Call,” and you will definitely be spellbound when you hear her clear, pure tones as she delivers the “cattle call.” She was honored to be part of the entertainment on a cruise back in the 70's with Hank Thompson, and she always loved his version of “Oklahoma Hills,” and it fits her style perfectly. You will be touched with her warm and heart-felt rendition of the song she wrote about she and her husband’s journey in life called “One More Last Chance,” and you will find yourself smiling when you hear the one she also wrote about him called “My Oklahoma Cowboy.”
