ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
MUSICAL FREEDOM TO FIT THE SONG, NOT THE GENRE

Strong acoustic guitar roots inspired by the imagery of such writers as James Taylor, the country-rock fusion of the Eagles and Stings complex chord structures make up the basis for Dean Smith's music. From folk to hard rock, blues, country, and even classical, Dean is well versed in all aspects and utilizes that knowledge fluently when writing.

"It's all about the song. I start with its very soul and allow it to become what it needs to be. I'm experienced enough to apply virtually any style of music to the song so that once it is finished, it sounds comfortable; as though it has always existed in this natural environment. I think it is very important to not limit the potential of a song by trying to fit it into a specific genre. Let the critics classify it if they must. True art of any kind should never fit into a mold."

From the proven blues favorite like "Poison Pen", to the latin rhythms of "Mexico"; the classical fingerstyle of "Sand in an Hour Glass", or the country rock stomp of "Crazy Country Afternoon", Dean's music is sure to hold something for everyone. It's variety, it's different, but it truly is all about the song.
