Start a fire in the fireplace. Pour a glass of wine. Even better, find a little spot at the beach. And, of course, have your cherished companion close by. You are now ready to sit back and listen to From Another Time!
These pieces form part of a larger collection reflecting my moods and ideas over the past three years or so. There is a decidedly “nostalgic” quality to the collection. The title track, From Another Time, is an arrangement and expansion of a song I wrote for a scene in the movie From Kilimanjaro with Love from Road’s End Films.*
Some of the pieces make reference to classical composers of the past, such as Chopin in the Bossa Chopin. The Nocturne evokes a similar mood to his famous pieces. Others perhaps evoke more recent jazz composers, such as Billy Strayhorn, in the Unaccustomed Glances, or We’re Still the Same. The Song for Mary was written for my wife, and was inspired by her holding one of our beloved Scottish Terriers, Zack. Still other pieces evoke places, such as Sunset in Venice or Where It’s Sunny. But whatever the mood, all of the pieces presented here feature easy listening. jazz inspired melodies and chord progressions, with plenty of counterpoint to keep the classical lover happy.
