...wonderful colorful arrangements and warm, human sounding vocals. Top notch."
"Deborah Crooks pours stiff shots of brains, soul, and guts into her compositions."
California-based songwriter Deborah Crooks' lyric-driven and soul-wise music draws on folk, rock and Americana, and is often compared to Lucinda Williams and The Cowboy Junkies. Her music ventures into everything from funk and reggae to the blues, reflecting her expansive and eclectic tastes, a sound which has evolved over her years studying writing at The Naropa Institute, voice with Mysore V. Amba Prasad (India), and cowriting and collaborating with her Bay Area peers. She’s released several CDs and EPs of critically noted original music, including 2008's Adding Water to the Ashes, 2013's acclaimed Little Bird, 2016's Beauty Everywhere, and had her music featured on the PBS Series Road Trip Nation and Songwriters From the Fog Compilation V1. In 2014, she cofounded the band Bay Station with Kwame Copeland, which has released three records of original Americana and rock and roll, including 2018's Other Desert Cities.
