Album Notes
Hearing in the Bardo was conceived and recorded in 2013. All tracks were recorded at IsoKon Studios in Woodstock, NY. Vocals and additional instruments were recorded at Galaxy Smith Studio in Brooklyn, NY. The record was co-produced by Deborah Smith and Colin Brown, engineered and mixed by Jim Bertini and mastered by Blackler Mastering.

My journey with the acoustic guitar has been driven by my study of percussion and storytelling. Songwriting is the way that I process my life experiences, challenges, emotional peeks and valleys and how I relate to the world. I am so happy to share this new collections of songs which deal with the feelings of loss, letting go and surrendering to the truth and flow of life.

“Bardo” is a Tibetan word that literally means “intermediate state”, and is also translated as transitional or liminal state. It is the realm of the afterlife when a soul has left a body and is in-between two different phases of incarnation, but can still see, feel hear and communicate things.

The songs collected here were written in the bardo of my father, William H Smith, RIP. I dedicate this work to him and thank him for teaching me to listen.
