Album Notes
There's a saying, "You can take the girl out of Chicago, but you can't take Chicago out of the girl", which is a apt description of the plain-sung musical style of Songster, Deborah Robins. Raised in a musical family where, generations spontaneously erupted into song at the dinner table, and molded by the Barbershop Quartet harmonies of her Baritone father, Bert; Robins' family hi-fi spindle was always loaded with goodness: Gilbert & Sullivan,Broadway Musicals, Gibson & Camp, Oscar Brand, Will Holt, Theo Bikel, Ed McCurdy, Jean Ritchie, John Philip Sousa marches, and particular favorite: "Songs from a Village Garrett" by Raphael Boguslav. "HOME FIRES", is the result of those many years of listening, of the influences of friends and folk music greats; husband, Larry Hanks (with whom Robins recorded 3 duo albums), and dear friend and mentor, Art Thieme. This is Deborah Robins' second solo album since the debut of "Lone Journey" .
