Album Notes
Rob Lester, "Sound Advice",

"This is a sweetheart of a CD. Debra Wagoner is very happy romantic company in her album 'The Hopeful Romantic' and the title gives you the idea that she likes to be in the company of love songs. The songstress has a warm, rich voice and presence. She's instantly likeable and unpretentious. Debra makes you comfortable, maybe because she sounds at ease with herself and the material. Opening her debut album with a bare-bones piano intro and a very thoughtfully phrased 'Love Is Here To Stay,' she caresses the Gershwins' melody and words. Once she accomplishes the goals of displaying her wares and letting us luxuriate in her honey voice and time-tested lyrics, unfurling them in conversational slow mo, she switches gears. Before more of this treatment could risk making herself or the listener complacent, the rhythm kicks in and she turns up the heat and the beat. Debra is a musical theater actress living in Virginia and performing around the country in lead roles. The album has a definite theatricality and naturally includes a few songs she did onstage. There's a lot of feeling coming through and it feels genuine, not showboating.

"She's been Cinderella in 'Into the Woods,' so she takes on 'No One Is Alone' which sits well in her voice. Communicating a sense of comfort, a big part of the agenda of this number, comes through well. The high point of the album for me is Jeanine Tesori's and Brian Crawley's 'Lay Down Your Head.' If a lullaby can be said to be powerful, this is it. The song is from the musical 'Violet,' another show she has performed, and she gets right inside the heart and soul of it. Debra is not afraid to be open emotionally or to open her mouth and wail...

"The best thing about this new album is that it introduces us to a singer who is rewarding to hear whether she's wrapping you up in warm, relaxed tones or belting a big finish. The clips you can hear on CD Baby by clicking on the cover above will let you sample less of the power and more of the pretty, but it's a pretty good start. Likewise, this album is a good start for a performer I'm glad to discover with you."--end column

Debra Wagoner is an award-winning actress and vocalist based in Richmond, Virginia. For years, audience members have been amazed by her vocal talents, and have always asked when her CD would be available. The answer is, "Right Now"!!

Debra's music is distinguished by the emotional commitment she devotes to every song she sings. The music is not simply sung, it is performed with every ounce of heart and soul she can muster. With inspired arrangements, created and executed masterfully by her dear friend Ron Barnett, each song contained on "The Hopeful Romantic" tells a passionate story.

"The Hopeful Romantic" is Debra's very first CD. We hope that you will enjoy it! Once you've had a chance to listen, come back and write a review!

Far Beyond my VERY high expectations!
When I received this CD I was expecting to love it. I was not disappointed! The CD went far beyond my VERY high expectations. Debra's voice is so pure and powerful, usually a rare combination. She can blow you away with her knock-out rendition of Maybe This Time, and reel you in with just as much quiet power in a great arrangement by Ron Barnett of My Funny Valentine. My favorite selection on this CD is the very moving No One Is Alone from Into the Woods. I found myself in tears as I could hear every inch of emotion in Debra's voice. I have to say, this music is the style of music I love, but one listen to this artist singing these songs, and I'm sure it will be one of your favorite styles too. This rivals the greats, Rosemary Clooney, Lena Horne, and, yes, the great Judy Garland. I could listen to this voice all day long. I only hope when I'm greeted at Heaven's gates, the angels sound as good.

Simply as good as it gets
Okay. I'm biased. I've loved this voice and this lady for a long time, but it's rare to have a love for a live sound so wonderfully replicated in a cd. Debra has chosen beautiful songs and she sings them from the heart.

Simply Fantastic
This is a truly wonderful compilation of beautiful music sung by an amazing talent! It's a CD that you can't help but want to listen to again and again, and share with everyone around you. I hope that this is just the first of many CD's from Debra!

Not only is she a sweet person, but also very, very talented...I met her when I lived in Richmond...It's a delight to own a CD of her singing....BUY IT!! You won't be disappointed!!

Hearing her voice whenever I want to
It's always been my contention there should be a city ordinance that Debra Wagoner should have to sing whenever she is in public. Since that is unreasonable, having her voice on CD is the next best thing. The Hopeful Romantic contains classic songs sung by a classy voice. Her expressive vocals capture the mood and lyrics of each song. Listening to Maybe This Time made me say Wow! out loud. An essential CD for any collection.

Golden voice sings love songs & Broadway classics
There are three things you can count in on this lifetime - death, taxes, and the amazing beauty of Debra Wagoner's voice.

This outstanding singer and actress from Richmond, Virginia makes debut "gold" with her first CD, "The Hopeful Romantic." For those who enjoy the classic stylings of Judy Garland, Billie Holiday, and even some of today's singers such as Linda Eder - this is one CD you MUST add to your shelf.

Wagoner nails classics such as "Our Love Is Here To Stay", and "Come Rain or Come Shine", and adds her own flair and perfect touch to "It Had To Be You", and "Ain't Misbehavin." Including a loving tribute to her husband, Joe, she fittingly pickes "Happiness Is A Thing Called Joe" - an instant classic.

But the true heartstrings are tugged the most with her Broadway selections - "Lay Down Your Head", the tender lullabye from the musical "Violet", "No One Is Alone" from Sondheim's "Into the Woods", and of course "Somewhere Over The Rainbow", the song that introduced Debra Wagoner into the hearts of so many Richmonders.

This CD is a delight for the ears, and a feast for the soul. In a world of undiscovered talent, Debra Wagoner is truly a diamond in the rough.

This woman is going to be famous!
Excellent vocals, rich, and with such a great range. I'm holding on to this CD and I am going to get an autograph because she is going to be the next Patsy Cline.

Some record agent out there must sign this girl!
All I can say is WOW! This is a golden voice with no limits. I am looking forward to another CD...may I suggest Broadway tunes, since it seems like you have performed in so many. I hope a very lucky record industry type scoops you up fast!
