Album Notes
Silva • Bell • Elation merges the laid-back swing jazz vocals of Dee Bell (Concord Jazz Records & Laser Records) with the perfectly executed Brazilian rhythms of “Rio-born, pianist, composer, Bay Area educator, and conductor” Marcos Silva (Concord Records). “Her [Dee’s] earthy sweet-and-sour voice, so mellow and rhythmically assured, sounds more alluring than ever.” (author, James Gavin)

This spirited music brings together elements of the Caribbean with Andy Narell’s steel pan solos, B.B. King-style blues with the guitar solos of Barry Finnerty, and a bright new saxophone talent on the jazz scene, 17-yr-old Chris Sullivan (student of Marcos Silva), along with Silva’s energetic sidemen (Scott Thompson & Phil Thompson.) With this reworking of standards, new and old, mixed with Brazilian gems and Brazilian jazz shuffles that rework some popular favorites, this compilation, with its variety of newly-blended styles, provides an ebullient mix of Brazilian swing jazz guaranteed to lift your spirits.

Quotes: James Gavin - New York City, 2013 -[James Gavin’s books include Deep in a Dream: The Long Night of Chet Baker and Stormy Weather: The Life of Lena Horne.]

Elation Indeed !
Elation is what I feel every time I listen to this great album. Dee is in top form, her rich full voice, perfect swing,
phrasing and intonation, it doesn't get any better than this. I (almost;-) always like to hear familiar artists growing and trying new things. No musical ruts for Dee. Her new spin on some of her older favorites and newer material, this is great stuff. Don't miss this one! Dee's a gem ;-)
