ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Deer & Coyote is the husband and wife musical duo of Chanda and Dan Bosch. The first experience with Deer & Coyote will envelop the listener in an intimate folk tapestry. Pure vocals and evoking imagery interweave with the visceral beauty of the cello. A bond is formed that carries the listener from beginning to end. Fans of Chanda’s will notice quickly the evolution of her talent since her first album ‘Beyond’ (2004), onto “Shed Your Shy” (2010) and finally resting with her love in 'A Lover Flies South'. One cannot help but get caught up in this honest journey.

As both self-taught artists, Chanda and Danny’s musical roots go back to their childhood where they found themselves always singing, whether in the rain or the sun or on the road in their 1974 Volkwagon van they affectionately call “Little Fern”. Deer & Coyote continue to surprise those who stumble upon this down-to-earth and truly in love duo! They are slowly and unassumingly making their way into the independent music scene. Chanda Bosch (ne: Cooper) and Deer & Coyote have shared the stage with such talented performers as Josh Garrels, Andy Shauf, Amy Seeley, Zaac Pick and more! When you support the music of Deer & Coyote you can rest in the assurance that you are supporting truly independent artists and helping fuel the ever-growing fire of quality independent Canadian music.

The story begins with a shy bearded woodsman who falls in love with a sweet songstress on the stage. The possibility of winning her heart was enough to inspire him to begin the arduous process of building his own cello and at age 30 teaching himself to play. For the better part of three years while working seasonally in a firetower, he has made multiple cello prototypes and has continued to master his craft, the efforts of which have more than paid off! His third firetower season was spent with his new wife by his side, making rich and deep music together. How can one resist the madness of a true love story. Deer & Coyote have spent the last three years of dating, engagement and honeymooning while working seasonally at their Lookout Tower to finish the songs they will share in their debut album to be released Fall 2013. Keep your ears and hearts open.

Chanda and Dan reside between northern Alberta and the west coast of Canada where they love to build and create together, not only with music but with wood. Check out the many beautiful creations of Bosch Timberframe (www.boschtimberframe.com). Also, Dan and one of his cello prototypes are the subject of the short film “The Wood And Wave Each Other Know” (2011) by long time friends Jason de Haan & Miruna Dragan. It is currently being exhibited in the Art Gallery Of Alberta as a part of the 2013 Alberta Biennial of Contemporary Art. This film has also been exhibited at the Khyber Center in Halifax, NS and featured in Canadian Art magazine.

Chanda's album ‘Shed Your Shy’ (2010) was recorded at the Norwood Studio in the heart of Edmonton, Alberta. The album was co-produced by Chanda Bosch (then Chanda Cooper) and the wonderful and multi-faceted Chris Wynters, who mixed and engineered the album. Chris is the Executive Director of Alberta Music, not to mention a songwriter, theatre composer, actor, music producer, and the founding member of Captain Tractor, one of Alberta’s most successful indie bands (selling an excess of 80,000 records). Chanda and Chris began recording ‘Shed Your Shy’ in July of 2009 and quickly formed a mutual-respect for each other’s music. Since then, Chanda has participated with Chris on his solo project "2010-1982" released in 2010. Chris and Deer & Coyote plan for further collaborations in the future.
