Album Notes
Demander is a post-sexy! post-punk! post-gregorian/ambrosian! trio from New York City!

Demander is a trio from New York City that flaunts a strong, stripped down blues-punk that has been called "publicly poppy but secretly proggy". Featured on and recently up for Band of the Year, the group is set to record a full length this summer with producer Mike Skinner (Black Moustache, The Fatales) in Brooklyn. With a quirky rhythm section and a melody-driven veneer, the trio sounds at times like the musical heirs to Fugazi's punk prowess and Tom Waits' dark alley rock; or the strange love child of PJ Harvey and Ted Leo. It's a happy hardcore that explodes live -- fierce playing, unbridled joy and good hooks for sing-alongs.

What other people say:

Lead singer Karen Kanan Correa is reminiscent in stage presence and timbre of Karen O. Correa's a bit less twitchy live, perhaps because she's got a bass slung around her neck. Where the YYYs have the geek-chic of Brian Chase behind the drum set, Demander has Sivan Harlap, a hard rockin' girl. In guitarist Jared Scott, Demander has a solid back up to Correa, just as the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Nick Zinner compliments Karen O. -, June 2005

"Sivan Harlap and Karen Correa form the relentless rhythmic backbone of Demander, which seems to get better each time we see it. The dynamic outfit dazzles with angular off-time rock songs in the vein of Sleater-Kinney, which are publicly poppy but secretly proggy." -Time Out New York, May 2005

Comparisons to Sleater-Kinney and The Breeders have been thrown about, but Demander walks more of a knife's
edge. Stylistically, the band has a strong, stripped-down blues-punk sound that is more accurately comparable to The
Pretenders or PJ Harvey. Karen Corrêa proudly prefers to play the bass guitar's lowest notes and her vocals are
equally as rich and robust. It's a perfect match for Sivan Harlap's rhythmic thunder and it's this pair's ongoing tug of war for dominance that makes the group's simple guitar, bass, and drums lineup so interesting. - Free Williamsburg,
November 2005

"The passion evoked by the roar of three excellent musicians is delightful and ferocious at the same time, as well as flaunting their knack of weaving intensely intricate compositions and making them sound so natural, as if they roll of the tongue, effortlessly so." - BigYawn, November 2005

Plump, bristling prog-punk bass lines over in-your-face tribal drums and lovely alterna-pop vocals. - Guitar World's Bass Guitar Magazine, July/August

Great EP
A Great CD From Start To Finish.

Damn good tunes, girls and boy.
I thoroughly enjoyed this CD. Besides the obvious reasons (catchy music, thought-provoking lyrics, tight musicianship), I like the fact that Demander isn't marketing themselves by using Sivan's and Karen's striking good looks. In fact, there was not one picture of these two gorgeous young ladies anywhere to be found on this CD. Very commendable in my humble opinion.
