Album Notes
Jazz, like virtually every other musical genre these days, is becoming increasingly fluid in it's interpretation. With his latest release "Seasonal Colors", Bay Area-based musician Devin Farney has embraced a recipe for it that is both analog and digital friendly. Live piano/drums/bass sit along side layers of synthesized arpeggios, electro beats, electric guitars, and layers of ambient blankets. The music itself borrows from past fusion masters in the realm of Weather Report/Jaco Pastorius, contemporary jazz/minimalist practitioners like Snarky Puppy and Mercury Program, elements of colorful psychedelia (Dungen), and the traditional harmonic and improvisatory language of old school jazz (Bill Evans, Miles Davis, etc.)
