Album Notes
This collection explores the tensions and resonances of the concepts of both place and 'home.' For a musician who's been on tour most of my life, and having lived in several cities, the definition of home becomes increasingly enigmatic. Yet specific places I have spent time--populated by humans or otherwise--become increasingly meaningful. Hence the title of this record: 'baile', which can mean home in gaelic, and 'as baile' which can roughly translate as 'away from home'...

Triple Goddess Suite is an invocation to the divine feminine, and to those (female-bodied and otherwise) that have and continue to help me to understand my place and part in the Chaos.

The Plains Song triptych is a meditation on the mystery and beauty of an afternoon thunderstorm on the Great Plains of Turtle Island.

Tracks 5 and 9 are traditional Irish 'airs,' both dedicated to my grandmother, Virginia Berry.
Track 6 is a traditional Kurdish song, dedicated to the struggle of the Kurdish people for autonomy and freedom. .
Track 7 is an English ballad learned from an Anne Briggs recording, and dedicated to her.
Track 8 is an early Scottish reel, the sheet music for which was used in a trial against a supposed coven of Scottish witches. Dedicated to actual and accused witches everywhere.
