Album Notes
Devo Spice, known for many years under the one-man-group name Sudden Death, returns with a new collection of hard hitting beats, funky melodies, and hilarious lyrics delivered will the skill and precision for which he is known. Gnome Sane is a collection of over an hour of music and features numerous songs that were hits on The FuMP (The Funny Music Project at and on the nationally syndicated Dr. Demento Show. Platform Wars was the 4th most requested song of 2009 on Dr. Demento.

The album starts out with a parody of "I Love College" by Asher Roth called "I Hate Mondays" which is Devo's highest rated song on Jango. This song was a hit on The Dr. Demento Show in 2010 and while most audiences find the song to be very funny there was at least one report of an audience member crying because the song hit a little too close to home for her. (Sorry, Carrie!)

The album continues with "Platform Wars" and then "Half-Assed Rapper," Devo's satire of the current state of popular Hip Hop which pokes fun at the lazy delivery, mumbled, off-beat vocals, and asinine lyrics often found in today's popular rap songs.

Other topics skewered by Devo Spice's virtual pen on this album include plastic surgery, zombie gangsta rap, Facebook, flying and dealing with the TSA, and the fact that every crappy/obscene parody ever written has been posted to file sharing sites online and falsely credited to "Weird Al" Yankovic. There is even a song that was composed entirely on Twitter during the course of a day.

Musically the album presents a variety of Hip Hop styles, including old school, hardcore, funk, and even the 8-bit rhythms found on "Nerds Rule." "Weird Al Didn't Write This Song" has to be one of the very few rap songs in existence to feature live accordion playing. The music for Flight Check was inspired by the score to Airplane; one of Devo Spice's favorite movies. There's even a heavy metal crossover song in the form of "The Dumbest Song On Rock Band" (which will be available to play on Rock Band in the spring of 2011).

Many other artists lent their talents to the creation of this album including The Great Luke Ski who battles with Devo Spice over which is better, Mac or PC, on "Platform Wars," and proves later that nobody parties like geeks. MC Lars joins Devo on Earworm to discuss the tormenting that occurs when songs get stuck in your head. Hacker/rapper YTCracker joins in to prove that "Nerds Rule." Shoebox of Worm Quartet puts down the synth-punk and picks up the P-funk for the parody "Nothin' But A Geek Thang." And Insane Ian joins Devo Spice to recount some horror stories they've experienced while flying on "Flight Check."

Gnome Sane is a very funny, high quality hip hop comedy album that has something for everybody! Unless you hate rap... or have no sense of humor... or aren't human. For some reason parakeets don't like Devo Spice's music very much, but lots of other people do, so check it out!
