ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Seven Years of Dirt is the debut album of Dia del Mercado.

Seven Years of Dirt is built like a soundtrack. Cinematic instrumental pieces inspired by dry desertlike landscapes and remote dusty towns alternate with storytelling songs.
The lyrics are about people on their way. Carrying the past, in search of a different life, far, far away.

'I got myself in a scene, robbed a bank and I fell in love. After seven years of dirt I got bored and I left the scene'

The album was recorded in the living room and self released on Root & Branch recordings

ON THE ROAD IT IS ALWAYS EXCITING

It took a little while before the debut album of Dia del Mercado was a fact. Singer/songwriter Ruud Slingerland from Groningen started in 2008 with several musicians this Americana project, that he called from the start 'a cinematic journey through musical landscapes' That sounds poetic and promising and that is just what it is. Seven Years of Dirt is from the beginning untill the end bold, storytelling and compelling. Due to the richness of instruments that reinforce each other and the story as well, no song excepted. Dia del Mercado doesn't back out to imitate the sea musically (Rain and Fire - part three: the Sea) or to sing and play a song of six minutes (Market Day). Live this must become a beautiful journey.
