Album Notes
Dutch singer-songwriter Diftong recorded his fourth solo album The Rocket Swing in Nova Scotia, Canada. Several Canadian musicians contributed. Among them Dale Murray, who also produced the record, and Christina Martin. The Rocket Swing was released in February 2015 on the Canadian label Come Undone Records.
As a volunteer for Live Stage Marnix, Diftong hosts musicians at his home, many of them from Canada. The plan for The Rocket Swing was conceived, when Diftong was drinking whiskey with Dale Murray who had just played a Marnix show with Christina Martin. They decided to record in Dale’s studio. Dale ended up producing the album and playing guitars, pedal steel, piano and more. Christina sang, Brian Murray played the drums and Fleur Mainville played fiddle. Matt Epp sang a guest vocal. The music on the album ranges from rootsy rock songs to acoustic fingerpicking. Diftong’s poetic lyrics are hardly ever about love, but there is one love song on this one, among songs about a vintage van, a tattoo, a voodoo doll and one about the origin of the blues. The title song, about a swing made from an old motorcycle sidecar that looked like a rocket, was inspired by the untimely death of a cousin that sometimes shared the swing with Diftong.

Review quotes on The Rocket Swing February 2015:

[...] You can hear the influence of Tom Waits, The Gourds, 16 Horsepower and many others. The musician and poet Diftong uses his accumulated passion in songs straight from the heart. (Sandra Zuidema, luckydice.nl)

Diftong’s voice was made for the genre [...] His lyrics are good and sometimes politically committed [...]The Rocket Swing is a varied and good Americana album. (Jan Marius Franzen, bluesmagazine.nl)

[...] The album is one of those growing pearls. Every time you listen, it absorbs you more. It is a flawless Americana blend of equal parts folk, country and rock. With very good lyrics. (ctrlaltcountry.be)
