Album Notes
With a style that organically blends Jazz to Rock to Funk, and Pop to Latin/Brazilian music, The Dig Trio has been keeping audiences astounded ever since their first performance in February/2000.
Brazilian natives Gustavo Assis Brasil (guitar) and Mauricio Zottarelli (drums) met with New-Yorker David Pinto (bass) at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, where they were all studying at the time. The group rapidly developed into a cohesive and impressive power trio, mixing influences coming from several different musical styles to their masterfully written melodies and harmonies, all combined into a deep and profound groove. The result? Something simultaneously modern, unique, and sophisticated.
The Dig Trio plays frequently in the New England area, and has been receiving high praises from both audiences and critics/experts alike.
"Dig Trio" (2003) is the group's first studio CD, and reflects its incredible versatility and musicality. The album features twelve original compositions, showcasing the trio at its best. Here is what some people have to say about the Dig Trio and the CD:

"Feast your ears! The Dig Trio offers up a truly special blend of jazz rock fusion music. Their musical explorations into funk, samba, and swing, to name a few, show a deep respect for their musical roots while pushing the envelope full speed ahead in a modern direction. These are three superb musicians worth checking out!"
Rod Morgenstein, legendary drummer

"Great CD! Strong grooves, beautiful compositions, and masterful improvisations fusing a wide range of elements including Rock, Funk, Latin, and Contemporary Jazz. A must for those interested in progressive and lyrical instrumental music. An impressive display of power and versatility from three very talented musicians."
Bret Willmott, guitar great, Berklee College of Music

In the Summer of 2003, the Dig Trio welcomed its newest member, virtuoso bassist, composer and producer Michael Farquharson, who hails from Canada.
In its short period of existence, the Dig Trio is already one of the most respected and admired acts in the contemporary jazz scene. See and hear it for yourself !!

Inventive and subtle fusion
A very interesting and rare blend of clever virtuosity and rich musicality.Smooth latin flavours can meet some very powerful rocklike soloing, as in the end of the great track that opens the cd. David Pinto is surely a great bass player, he is very impressive in his intricate bass lines yet always melodic as well as he is in his inventive soloing (check track 2 and 10 for exemple). Two tracks in a more jazzy mood are enlightened by the wonderful presence of a trombone player. If on some tracks you can think of the best Carl Verheyen's music (circa Garage's Sales) or even some Mac Laughlin (check the great Billy Cobhamish drumming in track 11 that reminds of Mahavishnu Orchestra), truly Dig trio has its own sound, and the space between the instruments that caracterised great trio music is at its peak on this cd. I am really looking forward to hearing some new music from the very talented musicians.

Innovative yet accessible Fusion!
An intricate blend of Jazz-Rock with Funk and Brazilian rhythms, the debut album by the Dig Trio is an amazing display of technical virtuosity, with strong compositions and memorable melodies to match!
This trio is breaking new ground! Check it out!

Holy $%^*! This is fantastic. I don't normally even listen to this sort of music but I couldn't resist. The musicianship is amazing, great songs and sounds too.

Roberto Trillo

I just love it !
I bought this cd for my jazz lounge restaurant on the cote d'azur, and it's great music for the late evening scene, I just love it!

Finally something that is innovative has got into my ears!
Dig Trio just blew my mind. Among the mix of Brazilian and Jazz music, technique, harmony and musicality. Certainly one of the best instrumental bands I've heard in the past 3 years even being a Berklee College of Music Alumni and listening to many bands everyday. Definitely, chek it out!!!!!

Wow this cd is amazing unbelieveable jazz chops.
This CD was rivoting start to finish. I espically like some of the guitar licks in collet call. The bass player and the drummer were amazing i like to hear bass solos in jazz.

very good
great playing and amazing facility. very tight interactions between the musicians. Gustavo Assis Brasil is an incredible guitarist who balances virtuosic technqiue with excellent phrasing and melodic ideas on these pieces. The rhythmic energy the band has gives power to the already great compositions

Hoo boy, this is tremendous! (track: " Hearts and Minds")
What impressed me right from the first listen was the way the 3 of them play together, blending with a level of sensitivity and group dynamic often lacking in bands with such highly skilled individuals.(...)These guys fill the aural space quite nicely, each displaying a wide range of sounds and complexity, so nothing ever feel lacking here(...) There is always something going on melodically and always an underlying harmonic and rhythmic foundation. And these guys are so tight!

M. Okayama - Guitar Player Magazine/Brazil

Great playing, incredible compositions, and AMAZING solos.
I know a lot of great bands and players and I can definitely say that the DIG TRIO is one of my favorite ones... The guitarist is a monster player! Unbelievable!! Great lines+tone+technique. The drummer and the bassist are virtuosos too!! The quality of this album is absolutely great.... Keep doing what you are doing...and please come to San Diego. I give it five stars!!! *****
