Meet Me At the Crux

by Dirk Hamilton

Crux was my third major label album and the first with Elektra. It’s probably the least unfamous album of my entire career. It’s the angriest album. Being in the music business had forced me to take a hard look at the realities of 'business’ and I began to understand just how profoundly corrupt our country was and how empty was all that talk of justice and democracy. I began to understand that a political system is only as good as the people running it and that the same type people always end up running it: the greedy, power obsessed Napoleon-type guys. The final track “Every Inch a Moon” was my door out and to better universe.

Album Notes
My closest artistic ally, guitarist Don Evans and myself produced Crux. We became totally immersed in the process of making it and it was one of the most fun albums I’ve ever made. “Billboard on the Moon” is probably my least unfamous song. Elektra said they loved it and that they were 100% committed to "making it happen” but quit promoting it after only about 6 weeks. Meet Me at the Crux came out at the zenith of the disco craze and around the same time the New Wave fad began. I don’t know if those things had anything to do with Elektra’s decision to abandon it. I’ve learned it’s best not to think about that kind of stuff… spilled milk.
