Album Notes
THIS RECORDING began as an ambitious solo project. Andrew McSweeney, who had recorded a number of times with various bands, wanted to create a recording which showcased his vision as well as his songwriting which was growing from strength to strength. Through Kevin Bolt, a huge fan of Andrew’s and of music generally, Andrew met Jerry Speiser. Jerry’s credentials as the drummer of seminal Australian band Men at Work preceded him, and his skill as a producer was evident in his ability to vision a sound, craft arrangements and polish these gems to brilliance. Between them Andrew and Jerry called in some amazing talents including Bruce Hames, David Briggs and the legendary Ross Hannaford (in one of his final recordings). Recorded under the skilful ear of Callum “the calibrator” Barker at Newmarket in Melbourne, the songs began to shine. As the recording neared completion it became clear that a band would be needed to play these
songs live. Enter John, Andy and Monique who bring the skill to execute these great songs and arrangements live. The formation of Dirty Rascal signals the end of this recording project, but just the beginning of a wonderful live act which is already playing all over the country. It’s good times rock, positive messages, country, funk and so much more. Enjoy.
Sonic frequencies are measured in oscillations per second, called Hertz (or Hz). The more oscillations per second, the higher the pitch. A frequency of 440Hz is a relatively modern standard and refers to the pitch of “A above middle C”. Before the accurate measurement of sonic frequencies, the tuning of instruments varied widely. Dirty Rascal tune to A432, slightly lower in pitch than the modern standard. This frequency is thought to be more soothing, healing and naturally resonant and that is certainly what we have found.
