ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
In December of 2012 two American filmmakers traveled to Haiti. They intended to document a small cross section of the Haitian music landscape. What they found in Haiti and since their return was and is much more than a cross section, more than Haitian and more broad than any landscape. Since that first trip in 2012 this project has evolved and now includes a vast array of musicians both American and Haitian all speaking this same language.

Distant Conversation is an insightful look (and listen) into the hearts of two brothers and their friends; Americans, Haitians, musicians and artists. This conversation is not typical. This conversation is not told in Haitian Creole, French or English. This conversation is in a universal language, music. Facets of culture like music and art give us the opportunity to communicate with anyone. They can help us unite with those we've not met and can even help us reunite with those we've lost. From our conversations we’ve come to realize that creative expression of all kinds transcend time and place, creed, color and nationality.

By using the language of music to speak with others we’ve learned more about ourselves, we’ve learned more about others and we have tapped into something deep, something human. Whether it be roots Haitian music in the form of rara, rasin, kompa or rap kreyol...or the definitive rock, folk and acoustic sounds coming from Louisville, Kentucky...we offer a taste to suit every listener. Through this process we’ve found other musicians and artists who’ve happily joined our conversations. Like them, you already speak the language.

Join the conversation…

Some proceeds of this purchase will benefit the musicians of Haiti to help them craft their music.

Mixed and Mastered by Kevin Ratterman at La La Land in Louisville, KY.
