Album Notes
A word from David Kim:

"As a latecomer to the fold, I feel especially privileged to participate in this artistic endeavor testifying to the truth that ˜The Lord is my Shepherd." Despite success and prominence as a musician, I was long blind to my one true Audience. I suppose I could even say that all playing was in vain. But with truth came purpose, and today I play to honor Him who blessed me with His gifts. And when I play, I feel His pleasure.

Even through my years of wandering, I always cherished Psalm 23 as an oasis of comfort, green pastures and still waters for my aimless soul. So it is with much humility and sincerity that I thank Paul Jones, Music Director at Tenth Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, for involving me in this opportunity to play the message of this Psalm. I also want to thank all the composers who have contributed so much of themselves to arranging the sacred music recorded on this disc; my loving and supportive wife Jane; and most of all, my Shepherd and one true Audience."

A Word from the Producer:
David Kim is one of the finest musical artists in the world today, and he plays for the glory of God. In this way and others, he is a spiritual musician not unlike the psalmist himself. The composers represented on this disc all labored to write pieces that would afford David opportunities to play church music of substance and energy, characterized by variety and nuance, and we felt privileged to do so. Mr. Kim is not only a remarkable musician but also a humble gentleman who has given much back to the church and to the community, with a special ministry to young people. We trust that this recording will be a blessing to all who hear it and that it will further the work of God's kingdom on earth. -psj

Violinist David Kim was named Concertmaster of The Philadelphia Orchestra in 1999. Prior to this position, he was the Senior Associate Concertmaster of the Dallas Symphony. Born in Carbondale, Illinois, he started playing the violin at the age of three, began studies with the famed pedagogue Dorothy DeLay at the age of eight, and later received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from The Juilliard School. As a 12-year old Mr. Kim appeared with Itzhak Perlman as the subject of "Prodigy", a WNEW-TV (New York) production. In 1986 he was the only American violinist to win a prize at the famed International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, where he was prominently featured in a documentary detailing the competition.

Mr. Kim performs extensively throughout the world both with The Philadelphia Orchestra and as guest soloist with numerous other orchestras. He has collaborated with many highly regarded conductors such as Christoph von Dohnanyi, Charles Dutoit, Christoph Eschenbach, Peter Oundjian, and Wolfgang Sawallisch. An avid chamber musician, Mr. Kim founded and is artistic director of the Kingston Chamber Music Festival at the University of Rhode Island. In conjunction with the festival, Mr. Kim founded an annual outreach program that has taken him to elementary schools, performing and speaking about classical music in an effort to cultivate future audiences. To date, he has performed for well over 12,000 young people in the State of Rhode Island. In 2001, he was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Arts from the University of Rhode Island.

Mr. Kim resides in a suburb of Philadelphia with his wife Jane and daughters Natalie and Margaret. He and his family are active members of Renewal Presbyterian Church in West Philadelphia. He is an avid golfer, wine lover, and sports fan.

Paul S. Jones served as Organist and Music Director of Tenth Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia from 1998-2014. His musical studies began at the age of five in the Toronto Conservatory program. He holds graduate degrees in piano and conducting from Indiana University School of Music where, as a doctoral fellow, he studied with esteemed pianist and pedagogue, Menahem Pressler, and was recipient of an Arts Grant in conducting from The Canada Council.

As a pianist, Dr. Jones has collaborated with violinist David Kim, cellist Anne Martindale Williams, duo piano partner Samuel Hsu, and Metropolitan Opera stars Jerome Hines, Sharon Sweet and Stuart Neill, as well as other artists of renown. He is author of "Singing and Making Music: Issues in Church Music Today" (P&R, 2006), and is a regular church conference speaker and clinician. Dr. Jones is president of Paul Jones Music, Inc., a corporation of composers who write new music for the 21st century church (www.pjonesmusic.us), many of whom are represented on this disc. Jones has composed or arranged more than 200 sacred works including "Hymns for a Modern Reformation" with the late James Montgomery Boice and "Hymns of Prayer" with Eric J. Alexander, of Scotland.

This disc features composers: Daniel Barta, Kile Smith, Timothy Shaw, Richard Nichols, Peter Leibensperger, Paul S. Jones, and Jeremy Strong
