Domestic Disguises features members of Nashville’s Line Breaks Collective, who answers these essential questions: What poems of yours would you most want to share with young women and girls? What would you say to the younger version of yourself? What life experiences shaped you? What art emerges from and despite your past experiences?
Domestic Disguises celebrates the ways women have to navigate the world—sometimes by masking who we really are, and sometimes by removing our masks.
About the artists: We are more than poets. We are a family of writers who have found common ground through poetry. We have learned to listen and critique with kindness and sound foundations, urging each writer to speak her truth as she refines her creative work.
Line Breaks Collective is a group of women writers in the Nashville area who meet once a month to generate material in workshop style. Line Breaks Collective formed in 2011 after a workshop by Nikkey Finney at Nashville’s, Global Education Center, upon the release of Head Off and Spit. Our work is inspired by a myriad of writers, including Finney, Lucille Clifton, Sonia Sanchez, and many other poets.
