ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Laid back jazz standards done in an elegant, acoustic ensemble setting. That's what you get with "Angel Eyes." Master mandolinist Don Stiernberg and journeyman guitarist John Carlini are the perfect team to present these classic tunes with style, grace and melodic counterpoint. Against a rich rhythmic texture woven by bassist Jim Cox and drummer Phil Gratteau, Don and John breathe new life into these jazz gems.

With skillful improvisation and a few tempo and key changes, these quintessential studio titans create a tasteful, colorful tapestry of music that sounds as if the entire project was the result of meticulous planning. It wasn't. The "cats" discussed each arrangement, did a trial take to get their bearings, then played their hearts out. The result is pure studio magic.

This is the perfect recording for a romantic evening in front of the fireplace. It's hip, it's mellow, and it's romantic. So pour yourself a glass of wine, relax, and let "Angel Eyes" transport you to another time and place ---one you'll want to visit over and over again.
