From Trinity, North Carolina.
As a singer-songwriter and with a bluegrass band Donna has performed at major concert and festival events across the country including: private performances for Race Car Giant Richard Childress; B.B. King’s in NYC, Merlefest, Bear Trap in Wyoming, The Ossippee Festival in Maine, the PBS “Song of the Mountains,” Bluebird Cafe and The Station Inn in Nashville, and many more popular venues.
A singer/songwriter who began performing as a youngster at her church, Westfield Baptist. She became the church pianist.
Has written more than 500 songs
2001, recorded first album Somewhere in Time (Running Dog Records).
2003, recorded second album Same Old Me (Running Dog Records)
2004, her song “My Poor Old Heart” was recorded by Alison Krauss & Union Station, and was released on their Lonely Runs Both Ways album, for which they won a grammy. They performed the song at the 2005 CMA Awards in New York City on CBS.
2007, released Gaining Wisdom album, produced by Tony Rice (Rounder).
2007 Donna’s song “Sad Old Train” was released on the Scenechronized album, nominated for the Best Bluegrass Album Grammy in 2007.
2008 Donna’s song “Never Gonna Change” was released on Kati Penn’s album, entitled My Turn To Cry, produced by Rob Ickes.
2009 Donna’s song “Scattered To The Wind” was released on Darren Beachley’s I Love You To The Moon & Back album.
2009 wins Just Plain Folks Bluegrass Album of the Year Award for “Gaining Wisdom”
2010 – Carolina Music Award Nomination for Female Country Vocalist of the Year
2010, released Hellos, Goodbyes and Butterflies album, produced by J.D. Crowe (Rounder).
2010 Donna’s song “Little Bluebird” was released on the Snyder Family’s Comin’ On Strong album. 2014, released From the Heart, album on Running Dog Records, Produced by Donna Hughes
2011 – Carolina Music Award Nomination for Female Country Vocalist of the Year

2014 Donna released 4 videos on You Tube, from the two new albums: “The Red Oak Tree,” “Walmart Checkout Line,” “The Facebook Song,” and “Dog On A 10 Foot Chain.”
2014 – Received 4 song of the Year Nominations from Strictly Country Magazine’s 20th Annual Spirit Awards (“Gone,” “Red Oak Tree,” “Dog On A 10′ Chain,” and “Where Do The Good Daddies Go.”)
