Album Notes
A note from Donna: Tony Rice always encouraged me to play piano! I wasn't sure how well received it would be to have piano on a bluegrass album, so I just did a separate CD!

I wrote 8 of the songs on FLY. I did a few covers on this record, because a lot of the gigs I do solo, are venues that enjoy a lot of cover songs. I also enjoy playing in churches. I wanted to show my versatility as an artist.

Donna has had songs recorded & performed by other artists around the globe, including Alison Krauss & Union Station, The Seldom Scene, The Snyder Family, Darren Beachley, Kati Penn, AJ Lee & the Tuttles, and many more as far away as Japan, Bulgaria, and Slovakia!

Donna's 2007 "Gaining Wisdom" album was produced by Tony Rice. Tony helped open many doors for Donna, after he became impressed with her songwriting skills. Donna's 2010 "Hellos, Goodbyes & Butterflies" album was produced by J.D. Crowe. Donna had many special guests on both of those records, including Alison Krauss, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Rhonda Vincent, Carl Jackson, Buddy & Melonie Cannon, and many other great names!

Check out Donna's bluegrass album, "From The Heart," on which she wrote 19 of the 21 tunes, also released on the same day as this album.

Donna's Fly and From the Heart are lodged in my car's player. I can't stop listening to Red Oak Tree and Daffodils, but all the songs are pure, melodic, memorable. How did she come up with so many new ones, and attract so many stellar musicians to her projects? That's her genius. A wonderful surprise here is Donna's voice. Always warm and comfy, it now leads the music with new strength and beauty. Those who don't insist on bluegrass will enjoy the country beauty of Donna's piano-and-strings Fly.
