Album Notes
After her education as a musical performer at the University of Arts Berlin Dorothea Breil was occasionally sorted out after the audition: “too grown”…”too willful”. Some day Dorothea drew her conclusions and created her own genre: the Social Pop! The elegant fusion of pop and crisis. Who would think of sheer consternation messages and world-improvement-poetry behind that, is mistaken. On her upcoming, third Studio Album Strangers In Paradise, Dorothea a.k.n.a. Dorothea & The Planets combines issues like environmental degradation, existential fears and the power of money in songs full of groove and energy. The complex arrangements of her and her partner, Berlin bassist and sound-wizard Lexa A. Thomas, let her voice travel effectively between soul, funk and pop. Programmed electro-sounds emphasize the up-to-dateness of the issues. Dorothea shines, inspires and motivates. So she convinced 19 more musicians to step on board of the production. Apparently this mix of mainstream and social critique could be the recipe for a better world! Eventually the results sound „grown” … and “willful”!
